An understrength Minor team managed
to maintain Bredagh's unbeaten start to the season
with an emphatic victory over St Johns at Cherryvale
on Sunday afternoon. Several squad players delighted
manager Sean Rafferty by taking their opportunity
to shine. 'We have a big squad and some lads have
had to watch from the sidelines in the last two weeks,
but we really needed them here and they were excellent.
Lads like Paul Milligan, Michael Lee, Ryan Smith,
Ronan McCann and Paul McGlade made important contributions'.
Rory McCaughey is a more regular player but his improved
performance was another key factor in the win, especially
when the scores were level midway through the second-half.
Rory managed to score a point from half-back, as did
Brian Willigan, while the all-important goals came
from Paul Alexander, Michael Lee and Paul McGlade.
Bredagh have now won two and drawn one of their opening
three games, with a tough away fixture to come this
weekend at Ardglass.
U-16s WIN
Challenge,
Sunday Feb 16:
St Brides 3-6 Bredagh 4-10
With only fifteen players and away from home against
a physical St Brides team, Bredagh came away with
a fine win. James Johnston was undoubtedly the star
in scoring 2-5, and surely he will figure for the
Down U-16s again this season if he keeps up this form.
Many of last year's U-14s made the transition to the
U-16s smoothly, with 'Pup' simply superb in goals
and good performances from Joe Steele, Niall Boyle,
Paul McCurry and Stephen Gray.
TEAM & SCORERS:
Pup, James McAllister, Dermot Coffey, Ryan Irvine,
Niall Boyle, Stephen Gray 0-1, Aidan O'Neill, James
Johnston 2-5, Kevin Harte (captain), Declan Noble,
Conal Short, Paul McCurry 0-1, Niall Devlin 1-1, Paul
Boyd, Joe Steele 1-2.
