Great week for Underage Hurling in Bredagh - 20/08/2003

The hurling revolution continues to go from strength to strength at Bredagh with the capturing of an Under-12 League title on Saturday and the qualification for an Under-14 Final last night (Wednesday) at Teconnaught.

U12's

First, the U-12s turned in their best performance of the season to win a cracking contest on Saturday to clinch the Division Three crown.

The team was 'truly awesome' in the first-half, according to Coach Danny Hughes. Goalkeeper Ben McCaughey and his entire defence kept everything out, while Ben Horner and Donal Hughes gave an exhibition at midfield, and in attack, Emmett Costello, Sean Lecky and the Dougan siblings, Emmett and Chloe were outstanding.

Two goals from Lecky had Bredagh ahead at the break and another two from Donal Hughes and Ben Horner finished the job despite a courageous comeback by Castlewellan.

Final Score 4-0 to 2-2.

TEAM & SCORERS:
Ben McCaughey, Damhan Farmer, Paddy Woods, Peita McAlister, Daniel Higgins, Donal McKegney, Michael Magee, Ben Horner 1-0, Donal Hughes 1-0, James Day, Emmett Costello, Chloe Dougan, Sian Diegan, Emmett Dougan and Sean Lecky 2-0.
Subs John Kelly and Daniel Russell.

U14's

Then on Wednesday the U-14s (pictured above) beat Castlewellan in a League Play-off, 6-2 to 1-3. The teams drew on their last meeting, but Bredagh had players such as John McKenna and Matthew Holywood returning, and in Peter Graham they had a two-goal hero.

Sean Irwin added another late in the game, but in truth this was a mighty team effort, with all observers being impressed by the style and passion shown by the Bredagh outfit.

The result means that the city boys enter a League decider against Ballela.
