Bredagh
and Teconnaught Draw - 02 May 2003
Bredagh 1-6 v Teconnaught
0-9, Cherryvale 2nd May 7pm
Report taken from Bredagh Website
Bredagh and Teconnaught shared the points after a
hard fought battle at Cherryvale on Friday night.
This was a gutsy performance by the home side and
,with a little luck ,a victory could have been recorded.
Bredagh settled well and opened the scoring with points
from Michael Tunney and Johnny Cleary.
Conor Owens took up where he left
off against St Johns with a well taken goal and a
brace of points to leave Bredagh ahead by 3 points
at the interval.Paddy Finnegan had a solid hour between
the sticks with confident fielding and accurate kicking
while the defence was outstanding ; all six were determined
and courageous.
Teconnaught chipped away at the lead
with 3 successive points, all from dubious frees.
While the referee was inconsistent , he did no favours
for Bredagh, and indeed made reference to a minor
game earlier in the week to justify some bizarre decisions
- very objective! However his lack of protection offered
to the players contributed to injuries to Conor Owens,
after 2 close goal opportunities, and midfielder Stephen
Kelly, both of whom had to retire with serious injury.
Two further points from the excellent Cleary left
Bredagh ahead by a point only for an injury time equaliser
from a relieved Teconnaught.
