President's Award for Bredagh

GAA
President Sean Kelly made a presentation
to County Down city club Bredagh at one
of his last appearances before handing
over to Nicky Brennan. Kelly was so
impressed at a function in February
organised by the Bredagh Development
Fund committee that he was determined to
recognise the work being done by all of
the club members in South Belfast, so
Youth Chairman Jerome Quinn picked up an
Irish Examiner President’s Award on
Saturday night in Croke Park.
“It’s great to see so many people
working to provide sporting
opportunities on the Ormeau Road for
more than 400 boys and girls in camogie,
hurling and football”, commented Kelly.
Jerome was
quick to clear up any confusion in case
anyone thought the award was in
recognition of either his playing
‘career’ or his work in broadcasting…
“Whilst I was undoubtedly an outstanding
substitute for the Bredagh Reserves and
whilst I have presented a few TV shows,
this award is for everyone in Bredagh.
Sean Kelly has been a great President
and it’s typical of the man that he saw
what is happening here and wanted to
acknowledge it at headquarters”.
Other
recipients of the Presidents Awards were
former Dublin manager Kevin Heffernan,
Declan Browne from Tipperary and other
GAA people who have worked behind the
scenes for decades without recognition.
