Bryansford had little touble in progessing into the semi-final
of the Down SFC semi-final when they accounted for Newry Shamrocks on a scoreline
of 1-16 to 1-6 at St Malachy's Park, Castlewellan on Saturday 30th August.
The winners had man of the match, centre half forward, Shane King whose display
on the forty was the showpiece of the day. He orcehstrated the play where he roamed
from defence to attack and in the process converted two points and was instrumental
in setting up Gerard McCrickard for the Bryansford goal.
An
error from the Bryansford fullback, Kane allowed Martin Rafferty in for a goal
for the losers three minutes before the break to leave the half-time score, 1-11
to 1-2 in favour of Bryansford.
Shamrocks were determined
to make a fight of it in the second half when Collie Burns moved to midfield and
D J Kane was introduced to the attack. Their hopes took a severe setback ten minutes
into the half when right half back, Damien Rafferty was dismissed after getting
a second yellow card.
