Under-10
success for Burren
18/08/2006
Congratulations to the panel
of 25 Burren under-10s players who
recently competed in the Rostrevor
Tournament as a part of the
Fiddler’s Green Festival. The
players were split into two teams
of 11 players and played against
Warrenpoint, Clonduff and
Rostrevor as A and B teams. Well
done to all of the 25 players and
subs who tore through the other
teams to a great victory. The
following week the players went on
to compete in the Warrenpoint
Tournament and managed to come
away with another piece of
Silverware after beating Bosco,
going on to lose to the Shamrocks,
then beating Ballyholland, being
defeated by Mayobridge and drawing
with Warrenpoint. The team went on
to narrowly beat Tullylish in the
semi-final and then finally beat
Leitrim in the final to win the
Hogg Family Shield. Well done to
the entire panel of players and
management on their outstanding
performances.

Final Burren v Kilcoo 23/10/2003
The recent under-14 championship
final when Burren went up against
Kilcoo was a disappointing match
for the Burren boys. Burren scored
the first goal but Kilcoo fought
back scoring 3 goals. Sean Murdock
relieved Burren but Kilcoo scored
yet another goal before half time.
Kilcoo were comfortably ahead
and contined to score despite
the great defending from Donal
Fegan and Karl Maxwell. Sean Murdock
lead the forward line and Philip
Mc Call scored a great goal in
the second half too. The final
score was Burren 5-7 to Kilcoo's
7-13.

The
two U12 unbeaten team meet 29/06/2003
UNDER 12's Mayobridge 4.5 Burren
2.2
The only two unbeaten teams in
their section of the south Down
League, Mayobridge and Burren
met at the Bridge on Saturday
afternoon and after an exciting
game of football, it was the young
Sky Blues who emerged victorious;
winning 4.5 to 2.2. In the first
half it was Burren who looked
the more likely side and they
went in at the break leading 1.2
to 0.2.
On the restart the Bridge selectors
made a few positional changes
and these had the desired effect.
Helped by a hat trick of goals
from corner forward Padraig Gribben
the Bridge forged ahead and when
the final whistle sounded, nine
points separated the sides. Both
sides deserve great credit for
the entertainment served up and
the skills and enthusiasm displayed
would have put many a senior side
to shame.

U16's and Ballymartin Draw 20/05/2003
The Burren U16 girls recently
played their first match of the
season but unfortunately failed
to show their full potential on
the day. It was a scrappy display
of football from both the Burren
and Ballymartin sides. There were
holes in the Burren team from
poor defending and marking but
Karen McKevitt put up a wonderful
performance. The final score was
a draw of 1-4 all.

Annaclone
defeat Burren 20/05/2003
Burren ladies had a close match
when they recently went up against
Annaclone and the final score
was Burren 4-6 to 4-9. Annaclone
dominated the opening ten minutes
of the match but from then on
there was a great display of football
from both sides.
Burren
Ladies get first points of the
season against Dowpatrick
18/05/2003
Although Burren Ladies Senior
team had lost the previous two
matches, they really made up for
it in their match against Downpatrick
when the final score was Burren
4-1 to Downpatrick 1-10. Since
those previous two league matches
of the season, the Burren team
had greatly improved and developed
their game. The first half was
a low scoring session for both
sides with the half time score
for Burren 1-0 to 0-4. The second
half saw some great football.
However the ladies were not so
happy to get a draw in the end
although they did score their
first point of the season.

The annual County Down INTO Girls
Seven football finals were held
in St Patricks park Newcastle
last Tuesday with Carrick PS Burren
defeating Mayobridge in the final
2-03 to 1-00. Looking at the two
team sheets was a who's who in
Gaelic football in Down, with
names such as Linden, McGoveren,
O'Hare, Fegan and Murdock all
to be found. Carrick will represent
Co Down in the regional finals
to take place in Louth later this
month, and we may well see some
of these girls playing in Croke
