BURREN U16 LADIES V ANNACLONE
In
what has been a very tough section for
the under 16 ladies, Annaclone paid a
visit to Pairc Naomh Mhuire for the
second time in two weeks to fulfil the
final section fixture, the first one
being postponed due to adverse weather
conditions.
It
was, however, Burren who started
brightly playing against a stiff breeze
they kicked the first two shots at the
target but unfortunately they tailed off
wide much to the delight of the Clone
girls. A short kick out from the
Annaclone keeper fell to the centre half
back but she turned into the challenge
of Siofra Murdock who blocked her first
attempted clearance only for it to go
straight back to her marker and indeed
her second attempted clearance was again
blocked by Siofra with her “Calf’s”
getting in the way of the ball – Siofra
duly picked up the loose ball and
planted it in the top corner of the net.
This was quickly followed by another
goal from captain fantastic herself,
Mairead Trainor who broke through two
stern challenges to tap the ball home.
This, however, was to be Burrens last
chance or score for 15 minutes when
Annalcone and in particular their full
forward took complete control of the
game hitting 2-06 in quick succession.
All was not lost though as points from
Emily Brown and Siofra Murdock (2) kept
Burren in touch and then a clinical
finish to the net from the unusually
quiet Catherine Mc Govern (Vincy is her
daddy!!) brought Burren back into the
match with a bang. Another two goals
the first from Siofra Murdock and then
Emily Brown and points from the same two
players as well as Catherine left Burren
with a nine-point cushion at the break.
With wind advantage in the second half,
it was hoped that the Burren girls
wouldn’t rely too much on the elements
to finish this game. They did start the
half with 5 wides in succession before
Kerri Mc Govern found the range from a
tight angle indeed it was the same
player who scored another point shortly
after and Emily Brown added a third to
ease the nerves somewhat. Tow quick
fire goals from Catherine reminded us
all of her lethal finishing prowess and
indeed it was Catherine who scored the
next two points before being replaced by
Cara MC Conville due to a hip injury.
Other scores to finish out the game came
from Kerri Mc Govern, Mairead Trainor
and Emily Brown. Annaclone had only one
score in the second half from their
excellent full forward who scored a mere
consolation goal at the death. Indeed
she was the most prominent player for
the opposition until Cara Murdock was
given the task of shackling her. This,
Cara done with the relative ease she
always displays in the Burren jersey.
This result qualifies the ladies for the
semi-final of the league where they play
Bryansford. Good luck to the girls as
they take on the East Down leaders.
