BURREN UNDER 16
LADIES V CLONDUFF
In
the rearranged fixture for the weekend,
the Burren ladies U16’s travelled to
Clonduff park to take on the yellas in
the league.
Although there was a very strong breeze
blowing up the field the teams made
light of the conditions to serve up a
football fest for the hour they played.
Burren won the toss and opted to play
with the wind in the first half which
proved to be an excellent decision by
Mairead Trainor the captain. Burren
started with a flurry of scores from
Catherine Mc Govern and the new bomber
in the side Cara Mc Conville who was
converted from corner back to full
forward just before the game. Caroline
Mc Kay was playing like a woman
possessed in midfield and along with her
partner Mairead Trainor they set up
attack after attack for the forwards to
capitalise on.
Indeed Clonduff dropped their most
experienced player Paula Gribben from
centre half forward into their back line
such was the dominance of the Burren
ladies. But still they were relentless
in front of goal with Caroline Mc Kay,
Cara Mc Conville (2), Catherine Mc
Govern(2) and Siofra Murdock all with
goals.
The
second half proved no different with
attack after attack for the Burren girls
even against all the elements. There
was, however, a break in play and a few
lapses in concentration allowed Clonduff
to score a couple of well taken points.
But with Emily Brown coming of the
bench, Burren had a player who was out
to prove a point and she scored a quick
1 – 2 to stake her claim for a place in
next weeks team. The ever impressive
Courtney Linden who seems to be growing
in stature as each game passes was at
her brilliant best with her mazy runs
into the heart of the Clonduff defence
and her clever passes setting up
numerous chances. At the other end of
the park Melissa Mc Mahon showed great
awareness to make a couple of fine
catches under pressure and her kickouts
were excellent throughout. Aine Trainor
and Eimear Ryan stepped in to the corner
back berths and took to the game with
ease. An all round good performance
from the ladies and with three rounds of
fixtures to complete they must remain in
this form to qualify.
The
ladies next game is at home to Annaclone
on Sunday 2nd April at
12.30. Please come along and support
the girls as they push for a league semi
final place.
