Burren are through
to the SFL Division One final
02 November 2006
Beaten SFC finalists,
Burren bounced back from that setback
when they qualified for the O’Neills
Sportswear Down SFL final when they
convincingly defeated Kilcoo in the
semi-final played at the Dundrum venue –
final score 3-10 to 0-8.
The Burren side went into this game in a
very determined mood, and laying the
foundation for their success with a
strong midfield display from Sean Ward
and Conor McCann. They were quickly into
their stride and led by 1-5 to 0-3 at
the end of the first quarter. Keeping up
the pressure on the Kilcoo defence they
went in at the break ahead by 2-7 to
0-5.
The Kilcoo side tried to get back into
the game at the start of the second-half
and two early points gave them some
hope. However, the Burren side were not
to be denied on this occasion and upping
the tempo of their play all over the
field they ran out convincing 11 points
winners at the finish.
Burren managed by James McCartan the
former Down All-Ireland star now meet
Longstone in the league final which will
probably be played this Saturday, 4th of
November at the Dundrum venue.
