The U-14 team recorded another victory in the East Down League with a comprehensive win away to Dundrum/Ballykinlar on Tuesday night.

Played in awful conditions the Duff lads struggled in the first half against the elements to lead by 1-6 to 1-0 at the break.

After a few substitutions and some half time reshuffling the Duff boys really piled on the pressure and ran out easy winners on a scoreline of 6-15 to 1-1. Playing direct football, the Duff boys were able to create a host of chances and converted a high percentage of these. The team has now won all 3 games to date but face some stiff opposition in the shape of Kilcoo, Castlewellan and Downpatrick over the next few weeks.

Seniors Finally Play To Their Potential

Droim an Easa -v- Ceathrú Aodha Dhuibh

ACFL Division III

Dé hAoine 23 Aibrean 2004

The Seniors broke their duck this season with a convincing win over previously unbeaten Drumaness in Drumaness on Friday by a 1-06 to 1-13 scoreline.

The game was only 30 seconds old when the Drumaness centre half forward broke his leg in an innocuous tussle for the ball with Eamonn Blaney. When the game restarted Drumaness took the initiative, scoring after three minutes, but despite putting the Carryduff defence under sustained pressure could not convert their chances.

After ten minutes Carryduff settled with Ronan Lawlor (2, one free) and Chris O'Neill putting Carryduff 0-01 0-03 in front. Barry O'Neill was left in acres of space in the 25 minute of the game and he duly dispatched the ball into the top corner of the net from distance.

Drumaness regrouped, and on one of their attacks fate was with them as a double deflection left Carryduff goalkeeper Declan Alder with no chance as the ball found the back of the net.

A further Drumaness point and a Ronan Lawlor free saw the half time score

The second half saw Carryduff take the game by the scruff of the neck. Drumaness opened the scoring but this was quickly cancelled out by eight Carryduff points on the trot with Ryan Hanna, Ronan Lawlor, Eamonn Blaney, Ryan Hanna again, Barry O'Neill, Mickey Brethnall, a Ronan free, Mickey Brethnall again putting Carryduff into a commanding lead of 1-12 to 1-05.

Carryduff slackened off for a few minutes and let Drumaness pull back a couple of points before Mickey Brethnall steadied things again. A final point from Drumaness gave a full time score of

u16 Men Beat Dundrum

14 Man Duff Deliver

Despite playing with fourteen men for 45 minutes Carryduff U-16s recorded a excellent win over a good Dundrum team. Carryduff started the game in whirlwind fashion and led by 8 points after 7 minutes through goals from Tony McMahon (1) Chris McConville(5) and points from breaking midfielders Sean McCreesh(3) and Conal Doherty(7). Carryduff continued to dominate but kicked three wides before Tony McMahon increased the lead with what is becoming a trademark score as he showed well for the ball and drove over from 25 yards on 10 minutes. Dundrum started to settle and after a wide from a free kicked their first point on 12 minutes.

The second quarter saw Dundrum in the ascendancy as Carryduff struggled to adapt to being a man short. However for all the possession they enjoyed Dundrum's return of three points was a testament to the tenacious defending and harrying by the Carryduff boys. In a rare attack Chris McConville took a point of his left foot (27) to give Carryduff a 6 point interval lead.

Half time Carryduff 2-4 Dundrum 0-4

The opening minutes of the second half saw Carryduff rocking as first a poorly struck 20 metre free was allowed to sail into the Carryduff net(2) and a minute later a second such free was pointed. At this stage Carryduff looked to be in trouble but the team responded with tremendous grit and determination and started to build attacks of their own. When pressurised the Dundrum defence tended to foul and Conal Doherty punished one such indiscretion with a fine pointed free from wide on the left on 7 minutes. Scores were at a premium at this stage as Carryduff worked like trojans to stifle the runnung game of Dundrum. A pointed free for Dundrum (12)was negated when Cian Slevin won a ball dropped into the Dundrum square and despite the pressure of three defenders squeezed over a left foot shot(14)to leave three points between the teams. The pattern of tenacious Carryduff defending continued but increasingly Carryduff were able to launch their own attacks through clever distrubution and excellent support of the man in possession.

As the game entered the last ten minutes Carryduff lifted their game and as they did last week they attacked this period. A Dundrum point on 21 minutes was negated by Sean McCreesh converting a 35 metre free(22) Dundrum pointed on 25 to close the gap to 2. From the kick out Carryduff worked the ball up the field, an exchange of passes between Ben Quinn and Cian Slevin created the opportunity for Slevin to shoot for a point. The shot hit the post and dropped into the arms of Quinn who had continued his run and he prompty dispatched his shot to the net to all but seal victory. Sean McCreesh put the icing on the cake with another 35 metre free in the 29th minute.

Final Score Carryduff 3-8 Dundrum 1-8

Another fine all round team performance by with Ruairi McKay, Matt Neeson, Conor Brennan, Conal Doherty and Chris McConville playing prominent roles.
