u16 Ladies vs Loughinisland Match Report
Carryduff 1 - 2 Loughinisland 0 -0
Carryduff girls moved into the next round of
the championship with this well deserved victory
over visitors Loughinisland in this championship
first round replay.
First half was a close fought affair with Carryduff's
Susanne Baxter and Eimear McKay just getting on
top of midfield. Each time Loughinisland went
forward they were met by a solid home defence
in which Emma Swail, Jemma Mulligan, and Antonia
O'Kane starred. The Loughinisland defence also
proved difficult to break down. Carryduff's persistence
however resulted in a penalty which the visiting
keeper did well to save. Home pressure continued
and an Orla Conway point separated the teams at
the interval.
Carryduff moved up a gear after the restart.
A point from Susanne Baxter and a well struck
goal by Orla McCaffrey saw them move into a comfortable
lead, which they held until the final whistle.
Carryduff had good performances from Aine Molloy,
Aoife King, and super sub Emma Magorrian.
Team as follows;
Kathryn Rooney, Emma Swail, Antonia O'Kane, Aoife
King, Rhiannon McBay-Doherty, Carly Fay, Gemma
Mulligan, Susanne Baxter, Eimear McKay, Orla McCaffrey,

Another Victory For The u16(M)'s
Seven Up
The U16s (M) recorded their seventh league win
in seven outings with a comprehensive win over
Teconnaught. A superb second quarter in which
they scored 2-7 was the basis for this win.
Playing with the breeze Carryduff started brightly
and when Sean McCreesh's second minute free rebounded
from tne crossbar Chris McConville shot wide when
going for goal. Carryduff opened their account
when good work by Carey set up Doherty (4) who
pointed from 30m. Teconnaught were coming more
into the game and the Carryduff defence was untypically
shaky in this period. Kevin Briggs pointed neatly
(8) but it was concerning that Carryduff were
not making the most of the elements with several
shots dropping short. Carryduff paid the price
for their profiligacy when a high ball in wasn't
dealt with and the Teconnaught full forward goaled
(14).
The response to this setback was to be decisive.
Carryduff raised their game and a flowing move
the length of the pitch ended with Andy Moorhead
setting up Tony McMahon for an excellent goal
(18). Playing with the poise and skill that we
have come to expect Carryduff drove forward, Quinn
(18)and midfielders Doherty (20) and McCreesh
(21) pointed, Moorhead burst through to point
(23) and Doherty (24) kicked over a free and a
minute later Briggs picked up yet another rebound
to drive over a point. Carryduff pressed home
their advantage when another good move released
Briggs to goal (28) and the same player pointed
off his left foot (29) to extend the lead.
The half closed with Teconnaught lifting the
seige and winning a free which was duly pointed
(31).
Half-time Carryduff 2-9 Teconnaught 1-1
Facing into a freshening breeze Carryduff knew
it was vital not to give their opponents any sniff
of an opportunity. The opening exchanges saw Carryduff
on top and an early wide was followed by a McConville
point (2). Teconaught eventually started to gain
more possession and exerted strong pressure but
tenacious and disciplined defending meant the
only return was a series of wides. On 9 minutes
Ruari McKay broke forward from half back and kicked
an excellent point from an acute angle Teconnaught
responded with their best period of the game and
points on 11,12 and 14 suggested at a comeback.
Teconaught were trying to engineer the goal that
would bring them back into the game but the Carryduff
defence was determined not to concede a goal as
exemplified by blocks executed by Paddy Craig
and Matt Neeson.
Good defending resulted in further wides and
on 20 minutes good interplay set up Andy Moorhead
for a point. Two minutes later the points were
secured when impressive substitute Cian Slevin
broke through on the left, his initial shot was
well saved but he drilled the rebound to the net.
Carryduff played out the last few minutes comfortably
as frees allowed Teconnaught twwo consolation
scores.
Final Score Carryduff 3-12 Teconnaught 1-6

u14 (M)'s lose out to RGU Downpatrick.
In this the second round game in the East Down
League, the boys lost out away to Downpatrick.
A vast improvement in terms of effort, committment
and work rate from the previous game was shown
but this was not enough to win the game.
Carryduff started very well and put in a superb
first half to lead by 3-4 to 2-4 at the break.
The goals coming from the impressive full foward,
Connor Lynch as well as Liam Morgan and Declan
Doherty. Early addded 3 points to his tally and
Connor Lynch also added a point.
After the break however, RGU stepped up a gear
and scored 2-12 to 2-1 from Carryduff. The Carryduff
scores coming from Conall Early, (1-1) and a screamer
of a goal by Declan Doherty. Keeper Ciaran Lavery
produced at least 5 magnificent saves to keep
RGU out but it wasn't enough as they ran out winners
on a scoreline of 4-16 to 6-5. With only 5 points
in it, Carryduff were again left to rue what could
have been. A combination of misplaced passing
and the power of the Downpatrick midfield unravelled
the Carryduff effort. However, it was a great
performance and again shows that this team is
capable of living with the top teams in the county
at this age group.
Carryduff have now lost 2 away games in this
section, and need to win their next 4 games to
qualify for the league final. A tall order, but
the team is well capable of doing so. Next game
is against Bredagh in the championship at Carryduff,
22/06/04. Throw in at 7.30pm. A cracking derby
game is in prospect and your support is needed.
