Awful Seniors Conjure Up A Draw.

The seniors produced their most disappointing display in weeks against Drumaness at home on Friday evening but due to their never say die spirit they fought back from a six point deficit to claim a draw at 2-08 a piece.

Drumaness with a wind advantage started at a blistering pace quickly notching up a 0-04 to 0-01 lead, Ryan Hanna getting the solitary Carryduff score. The lead could have been much greater but for two bad goal misses and some last gasp Carryduff tackling. With the Carryduff forwards starved of possession it was looking ominous for Carryduff even at this early stage in the match.

A Barry O'Neill point followed by the sending off of the Drumaness right corner forward gave Carryduff some hope but this was quickly quashed by the turning down of a clear cut penalty and Drumaness goal.

Ryan Hanna added a third Carryduff point from a free with Drumaness adding another of their own to leave the away side 5 points up at the break.

Half Time: Ceathrú Aodha Dhuibh 0-03 Droim an Easa 1-05

The start of the second half went from bad to worse for Carryduff as Drumaness again started the brighter with their half backs and half forward giving their Carryduff opponents a torrid time.

Two points on the trot from Drumaness gave them what looked like an unassailable 7 point lead but Carryduff showed the commitment and determination to grind out results which has been a hallmark of their recent form.

Substitute Rory Gardiner got the ball rolling in the 13th minute of the half only for Michael Brenthnall to get himself sent off. A double substitution saw Paul Prenter and Michael Hamill enter the fray for Carryduff for the first time this season and immediately the Carryduff attack livened up.

Prenter with almost his first touch of the game drove a twenty yard shot against bar. This galvanised the Carryduff team with Eamonn Blaney and Barry O'Neill cutting back the Drumaness lead.

Drumaness got a point of their own in the 22 minute but in Carryduff's next attack Brian McCreanor cooly slotted the ball past the despairing dive of the Drumaness keeper. To bring the 'Duff right back into it. Game On!

Chris O'Neill sent the crowd wild with a second Carryduff goal as he took on what seemed the entire Drumaness defence before burying the ball into the back of the net to put Carryduff a point up.

The anguish in the Carryduff crowd was palpable when Drumaness were awarded a penalty which they duly dispatched but Carryduff weren't finished yet with Gerard Scullion and Rory Gardiner adding a further two points to leave the scores level.

Next up top of the league Darragh Cross, a tough challenge but if Carryduff can reproduced the same form they showed in the last quarter of an hour in this match then they have nothing to be frightened of.

Conall Early 0-3
Stephen Quinn 2-0
Laim Morgan 1-0
Darragh Brownlee 1-1
Connor Docherty 0-1

Man of the Match - Connor Donnelly
Well done to all the squad on a superb win.
The boys now face Downpatrick RGU in the next round and after two very narrow defeats to date from the RGU, Carryduff will be hoping to make it 3rd time lucky. Another great game is in prospect. The boys next game is on Tuesday night at home to Bredagh in the league(throw in at 7.30pm). Another performance like Tuesday night should see the boys pick up 2 valuable league points.

Junior Ladies Unlucky Against Shamrocks

Junior ladies Carryduff v Newry Shamrocks 21/6/04

An under strength Carryduff side served up a determined, entertaining display on Monday evening.

This was the fourth game in a row that the official referee did not show at the Carryduff venue and this needs to be addressed at county board level.

The first half was evenly contested with the Carryduff half back line putting on a solid display. Donla fisher was on top in this sector, making strong runs and giving good distribution into the forwards. She was ably assisted by Emma Swail and in particular Jemma Mulligan who caused all sorts of problems on the left wing. Full back Caoimh McDonald improves with every game, Aisling Magee made some timely interceptions close to the Carryduff goals and Niamh Dawson tried hard. Stand in goalkeeper Siobhan O’Grady tried hard as did Mairéad McKee on her debut. Suzanne Baxter and Nuala Small broke evens at midfield.

At the interval Carryduff lead 1-3 to Newry Shamrock’s 1-2.

Carryduff started strongly in the second half with Donla Fisher, Susan Baxter and Susan Irvine linking well. Newry scored two soft goals mid-way through this half. The Carryduff ladies responded and in particular Aine Molloy who had her best game in a Carryduff jersey. She ran the Newry defence ragged and good passing to full forwards Orla Conway, Deidre Swail and Joanne McCourt forced the Shamrock backs into numerous fouls. Carryduff had the scores evened up with five minutes remaining. In the final minutes two basic mistakes let the Newry ladies in for two easy goals, which didn’t reflect the closeness of the game.
Final score Newry Shamrocks 5-3 Carryduff 2-6

Under 12s victorious - Bryansford 5-4 7-6 u12(M)

Under 12s victorious - Bryansford 5-4 7-6 Carryduff. The under 12 team won a fiercely competitive match against Bryansford in Newcastle to complete their section unbeaten.

Having won every match, except the game which Bredagh conceeded unplayed, the boys finished the section with a very tough match against Bryansford.

Carryduff got off to an excellent start scoring two goals before Bryansford woke up. When they did get going though Bryansford were first to the ball nearly everytime. Their sheer determination, and a few helpful decisions by the ref, got them back in to the game. Carryduff however never let the game slip, and some top class goal keeping by Man of the Match, Peter Norris, kept them in the lead going in to the second half.

A stern team talk at half time, and a few substitutions saw a different Carryduff team in the second half. Carryduff took theirs scores, most of the time, and the back six and goalkeeper went into lockdown mode. Every ball was battled for and Carryduff ran out worthy winners at the end of a very long second half. A superb effort by all to finish the section with ALL the points.

Carryduff face Bryansford again in two weeks time in the championship, back in Newcastle, so everyone is expected at training on Wednesday. We only have tough games from this point forward, and we will be missing players over the summer, so now is the time to dig deep and show everyone what you are made of.
