Carryduff
Seniors welcomed Newry Mitchels to Carryduff on
Friday evening with Carryduff looking for two
points to continue their roll after their win
over Glenn on Monday evening.
Barry O'Neill gave Carryduff a dream start with
a goal on three minutes after a slick move involving
brother Shane and Felim Henry. Mitchels, despite
a strong wind advantage, spent most of the half
stuck in their own half as Carryduff played some
excellent football.
Mitchels opened their account in the fifth minute
but it was Carryduff who made their possession
count with points from Shane O'Neill (6,11), Ryan
Hanna (10) and Barry O'Neill (14).
Mitchels put their best run of the half together
scoring in the 17th, 21st and 23rd minutes but
the O'Neill brothers combined again to stretch
Carryduff's lead even further. Barry put Chris
through for a goal (25) and then followed it up
with a point from a free (26) before setting up
Shane for Carryduff's third goal (28).
Mitchels got a fifth point just before half-time

Despite playing with the breeze in the second
half, Carryduff fell apart. Sloppy passing, loose
marking and woeful shooting all resulted in the
Duff remaining scoreless for 25 minutes.
Mitchel's came out for the second half like a
whirlwind, scoring a point in the first thirty
seconds. A goal for Mitchel's in the fifth minute
and 3 points (7,12,20) brought them back to within
2 points of Carryduff.
Despite Mitchel's dominance they continued with
some over aggressive and at times nasty tackling.
In one of these instances Ronan Lawlor was injured
and had to be taken to hospital with a badly damaged
knee, Declan Morgan his replacement.
Man of the Match Barry O'Neill put the spark back
into Carryduff with his second goal of them game
in the 25th minute. A 45 from Barry dropped into
the net with the Mitchels keeper clutching at
air. A third point from Shane in the 27th minute
was the last score of the game.
A bad tackle on Chris O'Neill by the Mitchels
full back earned him a red card as the Mitchels
men let their heads drop. Final score in Carryduff
