Reserves Through To Championship Final

The reserves put in another masterful second half display in Drumaness on Saturday evening to defeat Bryansford by a 0-12 to 0-06 scoreline to reach the All-County Reserves Final against either Burren or Kilcoo.

Carryduff started strongly but failed to make their dominance count with too many wides and some over elaboration in front of the posts.

Conor Gardiner eventually got Carryduff going after six minutes of the game only for Bryansford to pull them back immediately. Ryan Hanna put Carryduff in front again only for Bryansford to get three of their own to take the lead.

Two top quality saves from Ger Connery kept Carryduff in the game, one a full length dive down to his right as a goal seemed certain.

A Karl Lewis free got Carryduff going again before Mark Kavanagh and Conor Gardiner put Carryduff back into the lead. Bryansford found an equaliser just before the break.

Ath Bhriain 0-05 Ceathrú Aodha Dhuibh 0-05

Carryduff came out for the second half and quickly took the game by the scruff of the neck. Sean Molloy, Karl Lewis and Conor Gardiner all getting scores in the first five minutes.

Bryansford got their only score of the second half in the seventh minute but Karl Lewis restored the Duff's three point advantage. Sean Molloy increased the lead further in the twentieth minute.

Sub Paul O'Neill got the score of the game with a brilliant point of the outside of his point from distance to delight the mainly Carryduff support.

Ryan O'Neill added Carryduff's twelfth and final score of the game after 25 minutes of the half.

The remaining five minutes plus injury time deteriorated as a game as a few of the Bryansford players lost their cool. Ryan Hanna was stood upon as he lay on the ground but thankfully was still fit to continue. Bryansford lost a player with a straight red after aiming a couple of kicks at Carryduff players.

The Final Score in Drumaness was Ath Bhriain 0-06 Ceathrú Aodha Dhuibh 0-12.

Its a long, long way from Clare to Carryduff

Carryduff's worst kept secret was unveiled on Friday evening as Clare stars Davy Fitzgerald and Colin Lynch arrived at the club pitch to coach almost 60 of the club's hurlers. Davy Fitz has been Clare's regular goalie and penalty taker for many years and has won most honours in the game ranging from All Star to All Ireland Poc Fada champion. Colin Lynch stars at midfield for the Banner County and has also won most of the games top awards. The pair stayed at the pitch for almost two hours coaching skills, signing autographs, and in Davy Fitzgerald's case trying to save shots from every one of the players (and some of the adults/coaches) in attendance. He saved most of the shots but couldn't cope with the mother/son combination of Conall and Mary Early who both rattled the net (although we think he may have deliberately let in Mrs Early's attempt).

At the end of the proceedings, Club Chairman Paul Lavery presented both players with a memento of their visit to Carryduff.

The evening was enjoyed by all concerned and special thanks go to Paul O'Neill who arranged the visit of the Clare contingent.

Dublin Doesn't Know What Hit It After A Visit From The Ladies!

On the 3rd October Carryduff brought 54 of the girls footballers to the Ladies All-Ireland Final in Croke Park this has never been done before.

We set of bright and early on Sunday morning. All 54 of us pile onto the O. Rooney bus. The 3 hour bus journey was good craic and the seats were very comfy!

We finally reached our destination Croke Park! We got off the bus in an orderly fashion. All of us tracing down the streets of Dublin City blowing our horns and waving our flags!

We got into the stadium and found our seats taking up 4 rows! The junior final was played at 1.45 and in it was Kildare and Sligo. Kildare won so most people were happy!

The senior match was Dublin and Galway. It was a brilliant match and very exciting! When Galway were 7 points down Eadaoin made a bet with Stephen Gilmore that if Galway won we got to do his hair in any design we wanted. Of course Galway won so we did his hair with 3 pigtails at the front two in the middle and one at the back! He looked a right fool!! At the end we had to go in twos a big one and a wee one and we all ran on to the pitch and got photos taken!

We stopped in Swords for a Mc Donald’s (Stephen still with his hair!) it was amazing how Mc Donald’s could feed all 54 of us. The locals turned and stared at us just more and more of us marching into the restaurant. They just handed out food and food (they must have made a lot of money!!)

On the way home everyone was tired (Stephen still had his hair in!) We had a sing song.

Finally we reached home and the bus couldn’t get through the school entrance so we had to get out at the bottom of Ivanhoe Avenue and walk to our lifts. When Stephen finally took his hair out they stayed in with no bobbles because of the amount of gel he had on his hair.

It was a brilliant experience and we would love to do it again (hint hint!!)

And we would like to finish we a BIG thanks to all the mentors who took part in the organising of this truly amazing event!
