U16s Take Another Step

Playing only their second league game since mid June the u16s collected to valuable points in their quest for the league title.

The lack of match practice was evident as Carryduff started slowly and after nine minutes the scoreline read Loughinisland 0-5 Carryduff 0-0. With midfield and half backs coming more into the game Carryduff started to exert pressure but found scores difficult to come by as a combination of wrong options and a strong breeze saw several wides. Eventually Sean McCreeseh and Ben Quinn points got Carryduff of the mark and on 20 mins Cian Slevin reacted quickest to punch to the net. An exchange of points saw Carryduff go in at half time leading 1-4 to 0-6.

Loughinisland had the first score of the second half but with the breeze at their backs Carryduff dominated the third quarter. Points from Doherty, McConville and Slevin opened the gap. The result was all but secured when Tony McMahon drove a low shot from 13 metres to the Loughinisland net. Moments later the same player fisted home a high ball to establish a 9 point lead. In the closing minutes Michael Murphy operating at Full-Forward notched a goal and a point to complete the scoring.

Final Score- Loughinisland 0-9 Carryduff 4-11

Junior Ladies End Season In Style

Carryduff ladies travelled to Teconnaught on Saturday evening to play their last league match. This was their 3rd competitive game in the space of a week.

The first half was fairly even with both teams trading scores. Maraid McKee had a good game in goals and with the back line of Siobhan O’Grady, Joanne McCourt and the u-14 player Maeve Magennis all playing well Teconnaught found it hard to score. The two Suzanne’s broke evens at midfield and up front Aine Molloy, Eimear McKay, Eadaoin Early, Kate McKay, Orla Conway and Naimh Dawson all contributed to the Carryduff scoring attacks.

Interval score Carryduff 2-3 Teconnaught 2-1

The Carryduff ladies upped the pressure in the second half. The halfback lie was particularly impressive with the determined Donnla Fisher well supported by Emma Swail and Jemma Mulligan in controlling the Teconnaught forwards and setting up numerous attacks. In this half Teconnaught failed to score. Goals from Suzanne Irvine , Kate McKay and Eadaoin Early put the Carryduff ladies in a commanding position. The introduction of Carly Fay and Orla McCaffrey added further bite to the attack in particular Carly showed she can play in any position as she notched up a further goal and point for the Carryduff ladies.

Eventually the junior ladies have come well, and this impressive win should give them confidence for the start of next seasons campaign.

Final Score Carryduff 6-5 Teconnaught 2-1

Mixed Week For The Seniors

The Seniors had a very mixed week with a 2-10 to 0-06 victory over St John's to ensure that they made the Division III promotion play-offs but then disaster struck in the Championship as they were on the receiving end of a 2-17 to 0-05 hiding against play-off revivals Darragh Cross including seeing three players being sent off.
