Hold On For Victory (3/4/2005)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carryduff welcomed Loughinisland to Carryduff
on Sunday evening for their Premier Reserve League
fixture with high hopes after seeing off Annaclone
last Tuesday but a soft goal and profligacy in
front of the posts saw the visitors leave with
both points
It was Loughinisland who took the early intiative
but Matthew Donnelly equalised with a free. Loughinisland
notched a further two before JD pulled one back.
Despite a lot of possesion, Carryduff weren't
taking their chances, wasting a lot of scoreable
chances. Loughinisland seized on this and stretched
their lead scoring four on the trot, two from
frees.
Donnelly and Scott stopped the rot but the Carryduff
hopes suffered a blow with a fortunate Loughinisland
goal. Mickey Brentnall added a further point for
the Duff men before the interval.
Half time score Carryduff 0-05 Loughinisland
1-07.
Carryduff made a much better showing in the second
half, keeping the 'Island men to a solitary point.
Brian Gibson got Carryduff on their way but this
was followed by a Loughinisland score. Ger Connery
pulled off a fantastic save when left one on one
with a Loughinsland forward to give the Duff men
a chance.
Scott added his third point of the game from
a free followed by a second for Gibson. More profligacy
in front of the posts cost Carryduff dearly as
despite the bulk of the possesion they made little
head way. Donnelly add a late point but it wasn't
enough to prevent a victory for the visitors.

Minors Draw With Ardglass (3/4/2005)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Minors hopes of winning the East Down league
ended today after the could only draw with Ardglass
and Castlewellan beat Bryansford.
Jamie Grant got the Carryduff men off the mark
in the first minute of the game but Ardglass hit
back with two of their own. Stephen Cullen and
two from Ronan McLaughlin gave Carryduff the lead
but Ardglass retook the intiative with a run of
a goal and four points as Carryduff heads dropped.
A McLaughlin free on the half time whistle left
the score Ceathrú Aodha Dhuibh 0-05 Ard
Ghlais 1-06.
Darren Laverty got the Duff men off the mark
in the second half followed by another free from
McLaughlin. Ardglass replied but McLaughlin added
a further two scores from frees. Sean McCreesh
added another point as Carryduff pulled level.
Ardglass regained their league, however, with
two points but a penalty from man of the match
Ronan McLaughlin gave Carryduff the lead on twenty
minutes.
A very tense scrappy final ten minutes saw the
Ardglass men loose their heads with some dirty
challenges. Their fullback was shown the red card
for a tussle with Chris McConville but even after
he had been sent off he punched at Chris McConville
again.
To their credit Carryduff held their nerve despite
plenty of provocation. Ardglass gathered themselves
enough to equalise and then pull one ahead but
an injury time score from McConville levelled
the game.

U14(M) News
The under 14's played their first game of the
season against Bryansford at home on Thursday
evening with Carryduff running out comfortable
winners against a slightly weakened Bryansford
team. The visitors may have been weakened but
they were there to be beaten and Carryduff certainly
did that with a score line of 5-12 to 2-03.
The panel of twenty players to man played some
great passages of football. Some fine individual
scoring by Connor Docherty, Connor Lynch, Gary
Smith had the game won long before full time.
Carryduff have a bye in the next round followed
by a home fixture against Leitrim on the fourteenth
of April.
A friendly game against St. Malachy's is planned
for the development squad in the next few weeks.

Duff Dig Deep (29/3/2005)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The U16s opened their league campaign with a
win when a three goal salvo in the final quarter
overturned a seven point deficit.
Carryduff started brightly but failed to convert
territorial advantage into scores and paid the
price when a ball over the top sent a St John's
forward in for a goal(7). Conall Early with a
free opened the Duff account (9) but three minutes
later the Carryduff defence was again caught out
and a second goal resulted. A free extended the
St John's lead at the end of the first quarter.
Despite the scoreline Carryduff were enjoying
ample possession points from Cormac McCrory(22)
and Ben Quinn (24) kept them in touch. St John's
however concluded the first half scoring with
a point.
Half Time St John's 2-2 Carryduff 0-3
The second half opened with Carryduff again in
the ascendancy but a combination of poor decision-making
and resolute defence kept them scoreless.
St John's lifted the siege and a soft free enabled
them to pull further ahead (10)and things looked
bleak when a further point was added (14). Displaying
commendable spirit and improving teamwork Carryduff
continued to press forward and when Andy Moorhead
was fouled he drilled the resulting 20m free to
the net (18). Carryduff were now taking the game
to the opponents who were becoming increasingly
ragged and on 23 minutes Andy Moorhead goaled
to leave the minimum between the teams.
The final minutes saw both teams miss opportunities
until on 29 minutes a high ball caused confusion
in the St John's defence and Darragh Brownlee
calmly rounded the keeper before slotting to the
net to give Carryduff the lead for the first time.
St John's responded by driving forward and a
long ball again left a forward one on one with
keeper Ciaran Lavery, on this occasion however
Ciaran got down brilliantly to push the low shot
away for a 45. St John's tried to work a goal
from this but had to be content with a point.
Moment later the referee called time to the delight
of the Carryduff team and support.
Carryduff were best served by Ryan Forrest, Justin
stronge Neil Magowan, Robert Forrest, Marty Murray,
Michael Conway Andy Moorhead and Conor Beatty.
