Carryduff Notes - 04th April 2005

Six Of The Best For u14(M)'s (26/5/2005)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a very tough physical game Carryduff u14 footballers came through by a score line of 2-06 to 2-08.

For most of the game Bryansford held a four point lead but midway through the second half, Carryduff started to play the football they are capable of, going on to take a six point lead.

Bryansford came back strong in the last five minutes reducing the lead to two points at the final whistle.

Another Fightback Gets Seniors A Point

The seniors produced another fightback against Warrenpoint on Friday evening in the ACFL II to take 5 out of a possible six points in their last three outings.

Three points down with only a couple of minutes left on the clock, Ryan Hanna got his fist to the ball to send it looping over the helpless Warrenpoint keeper and into the back of the net. Indeed in injury time Carryduff could have stolen a victory but a draw is a good result nevertheless.

Final score Ceathrú Aodha Dhuibh 1-07 Rinn Mhic Giolla Rua 2-04

Persistence pays off for under 12 Hurlers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

> the start of the match at home on Saturday 28th May both Carryduff and

> Castlewellan never let the sliotar lie too long. It was fast and

> furious from start to finish. In the first half Carryduff played

> against a strong wind and finally just before the end of the half

> James Lavery put Carryduff in front with a good point. Both

> Midfielders James Lavery and Gareth Lynch seen a lot of play

in the match and showed their skill and determination no matter how big their opponents were. Eoghan Rodgers was unbelievable shoulder to shoulder against bigger adversaries.

Castlewellan were the stronger in most of the ground hurling challenges. This finally paid off for them midway through the second half when a series of four strong ground hits slipped passed four Carryduff players culminating in a shot too close to goal for Daniel McGlinchy to save. With 2 points behind it looked like Carryduff would go in front when they won a penalty. James Lavery lined up for the shot which was shot hard and on target but a brilliant save from Castlewellan denied this chance. Another ball shot into the Castlewellan box stopping at the upright was attacked by the Carryduff forwards but incredibly Castlewellan managed to keep this out too.

With just over five minutes left Carryduff kept up the onslaught against the busy Castlewellan defenders. Persistence paid off when James Lavery shot hard and accurate to deny a good Castlewellan goalkeeper a chance of a save. This was soon followed by a reliable point from distance from Eoin Conway. Two more shots from James Lavery resulted in one point and when the second shot dropped low another goal!

U-10 Girls Challenge Games

The U-10 girls played two 7-a-side games on Friday night against Bredagh Ladies at Carryduff. The U-10 girls had a comfortable win in their game while the U-8 game was a much closer affair with Bredagh shading it by a point.

Thanks to the many parents who turned up to encourage the girls who displayed great determination and skill in both games.

Carryduff U12 girls win their first competitive league game
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

U12 girl's 2nd half fight back against Bright was outstanding. 5 points down against a very determined Bright team, Carryduff girls "dug deep" and hit back with 6 great scores. Niamh Molloy lead the charge with one goal. Emma Hannah girl of the match followed this up with another fine goal and a spectacular long distance effort by Natashsa Harbinson left the Bright keeper stranded. Points by Fiona McCauley (Capt for the match) Erin Robinson and Ciara Doherty sealed Bright's fate .

The mid field and defence also played a vital part in this very exciting game. Aiofe O'Reilly fought hard to take control of the mid field area. While Hannah Magorrian, Ciara Crosbie and Maria Blaney had to repel several determined attacks from Bright's forward line.

Well done everyone !!!!
