u16s Denied
----------------------------------------------------------------
A disastrous five minute period either side of
half time in which 1-4 was conceded proved decisive
as the U16s lost out in an exciting tussle with
Castlewellan.
Carryduff started brightly and incisive play let
in Declan Doherty for a point within the first
minute. Early pressure was not converted into scores
and their first attack yielded a Castlewellan
goal(6).
Play swung from end to end and two Castlewellan
points were cancelled by a Stephen Quinn free (19)
and Andy Moorhead (20). From the resulting kickout
Castlewellan gained posession and sliced through the
Carryduff defence for a second goal to open a five
point gap. Carryduff however responded and on 22
Conall Early goaled with some style after been put
through by Declan Doherty and on 25 Early pointed a
free to cancel a similar Castlewellan point.
Disaster struck when poor kickouts led to a goal and
a point for Castlewellan to leave the half time
score Carryduff 1-4 Castlewellan 3-5.
Points in the second and third minutes put the
visitors nine clear but Carryduff refused to lie
down. Declan Doherty latched onto a rebound to goal
and points from Neil Magowan, Liam Morgan and an
excellent score from Conor Beattie closed the gap to
four with 12 minutes remaining. Within a minute
however a speculative lob was allowed to drop to the
Duff net and a subsequent point widened the gap
further. Still Carryduff responded, Declan Doherty
goaled again (23) and points from Conall Early (27)
and Stephen Quinn (29)left a goal between the sides.
With almost the last kick of the game Castlewellan
secured the insurance point.
While the result was a disappointment the
performance offered much encouragement and it is
important to note that 9 of the starting line up
will be eligible next year.
Best for Carryduff were Paddy Craig, Cian Slevin,
Martin Murray, Ben Quinn and Liam Morgan

u12 Hurlers Unlucky Friday 13th
----------------------------------------------------------------
Friday the 13th was not "too bad" a night for the
Carryduff under 12 hurling squad. 19 Players turned
up including at least 4 of our under 10s for a fine
performance against a strong Bredagh team. For the
first quarter of the match Bredagh kept the sliotar
in the Carryduff half and only by the strong solo
performance of Owen Conway kept the score lower than
it could have been. A lapse of concentration towards
the end of the first half allowed Bredagh some
undefended goals.
In the second half Carryduff responded with some
very fine points hit from distance. James Lavery was
the first to put Carryduff on the scoreboard,
rallying the home team and completing a tally of two
very finely hit points. Then the determination of
Gareth Lynch gave Carryduff another brilliant point
and was unfortunate not to score from one of many
fine sideline cuts.
To finish off the half which Carryduff were the
stronger was Eoin Rodgers who scored a super point
50 yards from goal. The second half seen only one
goal slip past Daniel McGlinchy who took over in the
second half and made some astonishing saves. Connor
McCormack had a fantastic night and was unlucky not
to score. The under 12 Hurlers did themselves proud.

Seniors Get Their First Points Of The Seasons
In what has been a difficult season so far, the
Seniors broke their duck in style by beating
Ballymartin by 5-05 to 1-04 at home on Friday
evening.
The game took a while to get going as an
accidental collision after only 5 minutes of the
game saw one of the Ballymartin players brought to
hospital by ambulance with a serious facial injury.
After a very long delay Ballymartin made the
early running but Carryduff kept plugging away to
leave the game very tight at half-time.
The second half was a different matter as the
Carryduff forward line let loose scoring four goals
in very quick succession to leave Ballymartin shell
shocked.
Carryduff goals came from Eamonn Blaney, Conor
Gardiner (2), Rory Gardiner and Barry O'Neill.

U16(M) progress in Championship
----------------------------------------------------------------
The u16s had a convincing win over a spirited
Naomh Seosamh at Ballykinlar. A Conall Early free
opened the Carryduff account (1) but despite
dominating possession the next score was a Naomh
Seosamh point. Stung by this Carryduff responded
with excellent points from Early (7), Michael Conway
(9) and Andy Mooorhead (11). At this stage Carryduff
were sweeping up possession around the middle and
driving forward only to be foiled by wayward
shooting and their only return was a Ben Quinn goal
(15).
The last ten minutes of the half saw Carryduff
find their range and points from Neil Magowan, Early
and Moorhead were supplemented by goals from Quinn,
Magowan and Martin Murray.
Half time Naomh Seosamh 0-02 Carryduff 4-07
The second half opened with a Carryduff goal when
good tackling in midfield gained possession and
Conall Early was released to sidestep the keeper and
shoot home.
Naomh Seosamh replied with a goal of their own
(2m) while 2 points from Early (3,4) capped an
impressive display of shooting.
A raft of substitutions somewhat disrupted the
Carryduff team and the remainder of the second half
was evenly contested though Carryduff posted a
disappointing number of wides.
Carryduff had impressive performers in Ryan
Forrest on his return from injury, Cian Slevin,
Martin Murray, Robert Forrest, Andy Moorhead, Conall
early and Stephen Quinn.
