Feile Fortunes

The Under 14 hurlers did the Club proud in Saturdays Feile an Duin, held in Portaferry. The colourful event began with a parade of teams through the Ards village to St. Patrick's Park. There, Carryduff picked up the 'Best Banner' award before proceeding to the competition proper, opening Division Two with a match against Newry Shamrocks. This was Carryduff's first Under 14 game of the season but the boys quickly settled down and swept aside the Shamrocks challenge.

The free scoring forward line featuring Robert Mc Laughlin,Conor Turner, Mark Mc Conville and Matthew Jones made the most of their chances and Carryduff finished victorious on a 5-2 to 0-0 scoreline.

Conor Mc Cullagh, David Turner and Daniel McKay all starred in this tremendous win. This put the boys into the Division Two semi final where they came up against a physically stronger Ballyvarley side. The size of the opposing team however made little difference to Carryduff side who fought for every ball. Jason Lynch, Eoin Conway, Matthew Adams, Ryan Reilly and James Rooney were outstanding in defence while Gary Morris and Darragh Goodwin had the better of the midfield exchanges. Up front, Gareth Lynch and Conor McCormack were a constant threat.

At the end of normal time, Carryduff were a goal in front and looked destined for the Division 2 final. However injury time followed and with the last shot of the game, Ballyvarley hit the net to equalise. Extra time followed with both sides having chances and goalkeeper Daniel Mc Glinchey coming to Carryduff's rescue on a number of occasions. In the latter stages of the second extra time period, Carryduff's luck deserted them and a Ballyvarley score saw the Banbridge side through to the final.

Carryduff then almost immediately entered the Shield but their earlier exploits had taken their toll and the boys exited at the semi final stage.

Well Done to all concerned and also to Darragh Goodwin who performed admirably finishing fourth in the County Skills and Poc Fada competition on Friday evening.

U16's Beaten By Bryansford

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Despite turning in a much improved performance the U16s went down to a strong Bryansford side on a score of 4-7 to 0-4.

After a bright opening in which Liam Morgan pointed Carryduff failed to cope with the physical strength of Bryansford and poor defending contributed to the concesssion of 2 goals. Carryduff rallied and produced good scores from Declan Doherty and Liam Morgan but this good work was undone when a third goal was conceded

Half time Carryduff 0-3 Bryansford 3-4

Carryduff took the game to the visitors in the opening period of the second half but a Michael Conway point was a poor return in the period that saw two goal bound shots come back of the crossbar. In contrast Bryansfords first attack of the half yielded a point and minutes later a fourth goal killed the game.

While the result was a disappointment the improved level of performance was encouraging, in particular Paddy Craig, Robert Forrest, Cian Slevin, Liam Morgan, Declan Dohertyand Stephen Quinn turned in commited and effective performances.

A depleted Reserves team drew their Championship match with Downpatrick on Thursday evening.

u14s Continue Unbeaten Run

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carryduff U-14 Girls continued their unbeaten run in the league with another victory over Bright at home on Sunday. A very young Bright team tried hard throughout the match but failed to register a score. Carryduff ran up an impressive 8 goals and 5 points over the course of the match with the goals shared between Lee-Ann Murray, Emma Magorrian, Éadaoin Early, Ciara Smyth and 4 goal Dearbhla Molloy. Bronagh Kerr, Rachael Morris and impressive debutant Caoimhe Quinn added points along with Early and Molloy. The home team defence were untested as Kate Mc Kay and Emma Magorrian swept up all in midfield.

Much stiffer tests lie ahead if this unbeaten start is to be continued and the girls will have to keep their feet on the ground. Solid if unspectactular team displays and another stepping stone on the way to a ground breaking season.

Bredagh IIs Knock Thirds Out Of Championship

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carryduff Thirds took on Bredagh seconds on Sunday evening in the Reserve Championship which also happened to be their first fixture of the season. Played in very windy conditions, both teams struggled to play fluid football.

Carryduff with the wind made the early running, but despite keeping the Bredagh backs under pressure failed to take their opportunities as the wides mounted up.

Scores from Paddy Love, Raymond Grant, Mickey Guinness and Barry Gillan were all Carryduff could claim with Bredagh managing two of their own.

The second half saw roles reversed with Bredagh dominating with the help of the wind. Seven unanswered points, mostly from frees, after the break gave Carryduff a mountain to climb. Mickey Guinness added a further two points before the final whistle but it was too late, Bredagh the victors by three points.
