u21s Get An Important Start (13/11/2005)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The u21s began their East Down league campaign with a vital win over section favourites Bryansford at Cherryvale.

Bryansford got the show on the road scoring after 2 and 4 minutes before Sean Molloy got his first of the game.

Bryansford pulled further ahead only for Ronan McLaughlin to reduce the deficit a minute later.

Despite Carryduff enjoying the bulk of possession and chances, wasteful shooting from the forwards was not helping the Carryduff mens chances. Five times in the first half alone shots dropped short into the Bryansford keepers hands.

A further two points from Bryansford punished Carryduff wastefulness but Barry O'Neill brought Carryduff level with a goal after some confusion in the Bryansford back line.

Down u21 Keeper Declan Alder was in outstanding form at the back for Carryduff claiming every ball which came near him. A brilliant point blank save after 23 minutes showed why Paddy O'Rourke picks him!

A period of sustained Bryansford pressure in which they hit the crossbar or upright three times finally saw them rewarded with a point.

Barry O'Neill brought Carryduff level with a point on half time.

Half time: Ceathrú Aodha Dhuibh 1-03 Ath Bhriain 0-06

Bryansford made Carryduff pay for their first half profligacy with a early second half salvo scoring seven points in the opening 22 minutes of the half. Carryduff's only reward was a rare point from a Ruairi McKay and one from Sean Molloy.

Despite a five point deficit and a clock running down the Duff men refused to be beaten a dug deep to hit Bryansford for five scores in a row.

Molloy added his third followed by two from full forward Ciaran Conway in his first game back from a season long injury before Molloy added his fourth to leave the minimum between the teams.

The sustained Carryduff pressure was causing havoc in the Bryansford rearguard and in the final minute of the game Man of the Match Molloy burst through once again to send the ball through the unlucky Bryansford keeper into the back of the net.

This kicked Bryansford back into life and they brought the game back to Carryduff but despite five minutes injury time and the bulk of possession they could only manage a single point to leave Carryduff the victors.
