Seniors Let Victory Slip From Their Grasps ...
The seniors suffered a three point defeat in
Annaclone on Monday evening. There can be no
question that this was a game they should have won.
After dominating most of the first half they
still entered the dressing room a point behind at
1-03 to 0-05 after being 0-02 to 0-05 to the good.
They quickly pulled back the deficit at the
beginning of the second half and took a 3 point lead
ten minutes in.
Annaclone pulled themselves back in to the game
and when captain John Lavery and Damien Teague had
to go off injured, the home team began to put the
Carryduff backs under enormous pressure.
With Carryduff losing the midfield battle the
pressure told and Annaclone ran out winners by 1-10
to 0-10.

... but make sure of the points against
Warrenpoint
The seniors got their first points on the board
with a comprehensive 0-13 to 0-04 victory over
Warrenpoint in Carryduff on Friday evening.
In control all evening against many peoples
promotion favourites, the Duff men put in the
performance which the team management and supporters
knew they were capable of.
full forward Shane O'Neill had a masterful
performance, giving the Warrenpoint rearguard a
master class in how to field, score and hastle the
opposition.

Carryduff U-16(B) Lose To Loughinisland
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carryduff 16 (B) played their first league game
against Loughinisland at Ballykinlar. With the wind
behind them in the first half and plenty of running,
Loughinisland secured a strong lead 6-06 to 0-01.
The scoreline did not reflect the effort from the
Carryduff team who defended well largely, however
the Loughinisland boys were more comfortable on the
ball, and took their scores well.
With the wind at their backs in the second half,
the boys began to lose their nervousness and started
playing better football. A number of good
opportunities were wasted due to a keenness to get
rid of the ball, however there was a much better
showing this period with Carryduff containing
Loughinisland to 2-06 and adding 2-03 to the
solitary point from the first half.
There is plenty to work to do at training, and
the mentors know that the boys are capable of more,
so we look forward to the match at home to Ardglass
next week and a continually improving team.

St John's Beat U14 Boys
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The U14A Boys Football team lost the first game
of the East Down A League to a strong St. John’s
team on Thursday 19th April 2007.
Carryduff lead by 2 points to nil with scores
from Michael Conway and Conor McCormick after 5
minutes, but St. John’s midfield and half backs took
control and at half time Carryduff trailed by 9
points. The half time score of 2-6 to 0-3 was an
injustice to the Carryduff defence and in particular
Eoin Doherty who was magnificent in Goal.
After strong words at half time, the change in
the second half was outstanding. Commitment,
tackling, team work all missing in the first half
were evident after the break. Two goals from Charles
McAllister reflected the domination that Carryduff
exerted on the match.
With further points from Michael Conway, Conor
McCormick, Charles McAllister and Peter Lavery
Carryduff edged to within 4 points.
Against the run of play St. Johns scored a late
penalty to leave the final score St. Johns 3-11
Carryduff 2-08.
The whole panel deserve credit for the excellent
performance in the second half.

More Success For U14 Hurlers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carryduff played a Bredagh side who are in
Division 1 and had previously beaten Ballygalget and
did very well against a strong Ballycran side.
The Carryduff boys started very well with all of
the possession but failed to make the most out of a
number of chances. The first point finally came from
Danny McGlinchey and more was to follow as a goal
from Rory McGrath put the home side 1-2 to 0-0 up at
the half time break.
The second half started and more scores from
Danny McGlinchey, Conor McCormick and Chris Overend
made the win a certainty. 2 late consolation scores
came from Bredaghs Tim Durkan who had a good game at
the middle of the park. Good performances also came
from Eoin Conway, Niall McArdle, Conor Cassidy and
James Lavery.
This was a great Carryduff performance and this
will give the team plenty of confidence going into
the Feile on Saturday.

U14 Ladies Get Big Win Against Mayobridge
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carryduff under 14 ladies put in a superb team
performance against Mayobridge in Round 2 of the
football league.
Carryduff started very well with the initial
midfield pairing of Ciara Crosbie and Erin Robinson
setting the scene for the game - relentless pressure
on the Mayobridge defence. Ciara Crosbie open the
scoring in the second minute with a well taken
point. Shortly afterwards following a goal mouth
scramble Emily Duffy squeezed a goal through packed
goal mouth. This spurred half forwards Fiona
McCauley and Niamh Molloy to take a point a piece.
Emily was in great form and added another two points
to her tally. In a brief excursion out of their half
Mayobridge broke free and scored a great
point.Carryduff responded with a salvo of 4 goals,
the pick of which saw Emily, one - on - one with the
keeper, calmly pass the ball into the net.
Centre half back Hanna Magorrian was superb
throughout the game not only in marking County
football star Harly Linden but also in her
distribution of the ball. She was ably assisted by
Aoife O'Reilly and Emma Boyle.Emma's and Aoife's
performances were also worthy of note, their turn of
pace and assured passing ensured that little got
past them.
For most of the game the full back line of Niamh
Lenaghan, Ciara Doherty, Meghan Doherty and
goalkeeper Katy McCann were seldom tested. Forwards
Orla McKay and Niamh Hughes were a constant threat
and Emma Hanna got off the mark with two fine points
as the half drew to a close.
Mayobridge started the second half brightly and
scored a superbly executed goal taken by the County
u14 captain Sinead McNamee. Carryduff responded with
another goal from Emily Duffy followed by a point
from Hanna Magorrian. Substitutes Niamh McGrath and
Fiona Rodgers played well and had several narrowly
missed opportunities. Rebecca Coulter and Emily
Hewitt showed great determination as did Maeve
Toner.
In a rare lapse of Carryduff concentration
Mayobridge struck with a very well taken goal.
However the ladies responded well again with Ciara
Crosbie adding to her points tally and Erin Robinson
opening her account for the season with two goals.

The reserves came home with both points from
Ballymartin in ACPRLII on Sunday afternoon but it
was touch and go!
Ballymartin started the brighter and took a 3
point lead before Carryduff responded. Darren Price
scored a second goal in a few weeks to help
Carryduff to a 1-06 to 0-04 half time lead.
Ballymartin came right back at Carryduff in the
second half and eventually drew level but a Chris

Minors Beat Drumaness Report II
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The minor footballers got their league campaign
of to a winning start on Wednesday evening with an
away victory over Drumaness by 4-10 to 0-07.
After a tight and fairly evenly matched opening
25 minutes to the first half Carryduff lead somewhat
luckily, by 0-04 to 0-02 thanks to some solid
defending by all six backs, a number of important
saves by Ciaran Lavery and points from Cian Slevin,
Andy Moorhead and Conal Early (2).
However late goals from Darragh Brownlee, Conal
Early and well worked point from Cian Slevin meant
that Carryduff lead at half-time by 2-05 to 0-02.
The second half started well with a second goal
for Darragh Brownlee, however Drumaness continued to
battle hard and it was only after a fine penalty
save from Ciaran Lavery that Carryduff were able to
pull away.
Further points were tagged on from Andy Moorhead,
Ben Quinn, Neil McGowan and Darragh Brownlee and a
good display was rounded of by a third Darragh
Brownlee goal.

Senior Ladies Win Opening Fixture
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The senior ladies had their first intermediate
league game on Saturday evening with a home fixture
against Newry Shamrocks. This turned to be a game of
two contrasting halfs. At the start Carryduff were
by far the dominant team causing the Newry Shamrock
ladies all sorts of problems.
Suzanne Baxter’s high fielding and direct style
of play was well supported with strong running by
Eimear McKay, Laura Sharvin and Aine Molloy
resulting in this combination having control down
the centre of the pitch. Emer McKay opened
Carryduff’s account with a goal and this was quickly
followed up with another from Laura Sharvin.
The Carryduff backs Rhiannon McBay Doherty , Emma
Magorrian and Donnla Fisher coped well with the few
Shamrock attacks while Emma Swail back after a long
injury layoff helped steady the defence.
Up front most of the forwards got in on the
scoring. Catherine Sloan gave her marker a torrid
time scoring a hat trick of goals while Kate McKay,
Claire Fitzsimmons and Eimear McKay finished the
first half scoring with further points each. Deirdre
Swail and Gemma Mulligan were also giving their
markers a busy time with fast moving support play.
Half time score Carryduff 7-03 Newry Shamrocks
0-00
This was a game which changed completely on the
resumption of play. With the big lead the Carryduff
ladies must have thought that the game was over,
became complacent, and allowed the reorganised Newry
ladies to claw their way back.
The Shamrock’s Fegan twins upped their workrate
and started to win more possession. This was soon
translated into scores and during this period the
Newry ladies notched up a score of 3-9 with no reply
from Carryduff. Carryduff’s massive 24 point lead
had now been cut to 6 points before they suddenly
realised that there was a game on.
It was the determined rearguard action of goalie
Catherine Rooney, and in particular Aisling Magee,
Donnla Fisher and Aine Molloy who came to the rescue
and got their team going again.
Laura Sharvin, Kate McKay and Suzanne Baxter
started to win more possession outfield and aided by
strong running from substitute Eadaoin Early mounted
attacks on the Shamrocks defence.
Emer McKay finished strongly getting a point and
put a comfortable margin between the scorelines by
finishing off with her third goal of the match. In
the final quarter the young substitutes Julie
Coulter and Maeve Magennis also played well at this
level.
