Carryduff Minors Defeat Bredagh In Local Derby
At Cherryvale
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carryduff minors proved that team work, support
play and use of a panel system can overcome
the toughest of opposition. Played in a commendable
sporting fashion both teams served up some excellent
periods of open attacking play.
A large crowd swelled by the Bredagh seniors,
after their training session in preparation
for their championship clash with Carryduff
this Saturday, helped to add a tense atmosphere
to the last ten minutes of this match.
The minors emerged victors with an excelllent
display of catching at midfield by Cian Slevin
and superb defensive work by all of the six
backs. Connal Early notched over a number of
crucial points at the closing stages of the
game.
Overall it was Carryduff's team work and belief
in themselves that saw them gain two valuable
points in the league. The Bredagh backs could
never settle on their laurels as all six forwards
proved menacing when they received the ball.
All 16 players deserve immense credit and there
were a number of contenders for Man of the Match
which ultimately must go to Carryduff captain
Cian Slevin.
Best for Bredagh were Ryan Johnstone, Owen
Costello and John Mc Kenna.

Minor Hurlers Get Opening Win (7/8/2007)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the first game of a short Summer league,
an understrength minor hurling team travelled
to Castlewellan tonight and produced a skilful
display to overcome the home team. The game
was notable for the free scoring of Conall Early
who contributed 0-13 and a goal from Conor Turner
which would not have been out of place in an
All Ireland final.
The goal started in the heart of the defence
when Rory Conway and Paddy Craig combined to
pass to Mark Mc Conville. Mark laid the ball
on to Aaron Mc Aneaney who exchanged passes
with Thomas Artherton. 'Macca'then fed a perfect
pass to half back Conor Turner who had raced
the length of the field to blast a ground shot
to the Castlewellan net.
Carryduff's other scorers were Liam Morgan
and Aaron McAneaney as the boys finished victors
on a 1-16 to 3-05 scoreline.

U12 Boys Football Update
The U-12 boys travelled to Castlewellan on Sunday
to represent the club in the annual Castlewellan
tournament.
Only 12 kids could enter & with summer
holidays the squad was slightly weakened.
In the group stage we were paired with Liatroim,
Downpatrick & An Riocht who beat us last
year to win the shield.
In our first game against Liatroim 3 of the
boys picked up injuries which further weakened
the squad. Despite this the boys played gallantly
winning all 3 matches to secure a place in the
Cup section. We were then drawn against St Galls.
Again the boys played extremely well. We had
80% of the play against a team that was fancied
to possibly win the tournament. Unfortunately
luck was out on the day as many shots for points
were narrowly wide & we missed one on one
goal opportunities with the keeper.
The boys were naturally gutted, especially
when they learnt that St Galls were only beaten
by 1 point in the semi-final.
They can be very proud of their effort &
whilst it was a cup that got away from us we
can look favourably to the future.
It was back to Go-Games on Sunday morning and
despite awful weather conditions the A - Team
took the field away to Bredagh. Like on Saturday
they played very well winning the game 1-08
to 0-00. The B - Team were very disappointed
as Ballykinlar failed to travel but fair dues
to them they trained in the rain.
Well done to all.
Full attendance is required at training to
secure a place in forthcoming friendlies as
a player or a sub.

Successful Trip to Croke
24 Under 14 and 16 hurlers and six mentors travelled
to Croke Park on Sunday to watch the All Ireland
semi and quarter finals.
The boys were disappointed in the first game
when the purple and gold of Wexford fell to
a strong Kilkenny side who now play in the Liam
McCarthy final. However the following game more
than made up for the semi final.
The Carryduff boys were firmly behind the Waterford
side who overcame Cork in a classic - Carryduff
mentors will now be hoping to see some Ken McGrath
style catches and 'Dan The Man'goals in forthcoming
games.
