Carryduff Hurlers Represent The County

Three Carryduff boys, Eoin Conway, Conor Cassidy and Danny McGlinchey, represented their Club and County at the Tony Forristal U-14 Inter County Hurling competition in Waterford last weekend.

Down lost both matches but all 3 boys played in both matches and gave a good account of themselves.

Championship Disappointment

Both the Senior and U16 Footballers bowed out of the Championship on Saturday.

The u16s lost their tie to Downpatrick against Loughinisland by a solitary point in a see saw battle.

Downpatrick hit Carryduff for 1-02 within the opening minutes but the Duff lads dug deep and clawed their way back into the lead before two further Downpatrick goals settled the tie in the County Town's favour.

The seniors had an unpleasant evening in Downpatrick at the hands of ACFLII promotion chasing Ballymartin.

Despite starting brightly, taking the lead, Carryduff wilted as Ballymartin cantered to a 3-13 to 0-05 win.

All Ireland Final Tickets

Due to the New Pitch Development Draw and no Ulster teams in the last stages of the All Ireland, the Executive Committee has decided not to run the normal £5 All Ireland Tickets Draw this year. Instead, there will be a free draw to win the right to purchase one of two All Ireland Tickets for both the Hurling and Football Finals. The tickets cost £50 each or €70 and are for good seats in the Cusack Stand Lower Tier.

The draw is open to any fully paid up member who has sold twelve or more tickets for the New Pitch Development Draw.

The Hurling Draw will take place on the 30th August at 8pm so only those members who have sold their 12 tickets by this time and have indicated they wish to be in the draw will be entered.

The Football Draw takes place on 13th September with again only those members who have returned twelve sold tickets and indicated they wish to be in the draw entered.

If you need more tickets or want your name included in the Draw please phone Paul Bradley on 0771 3399832.

Carryduff Minors Beaten by St Mary's (Liatroim/Dromara)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The minors travelled to Liatroim/Dromara on Thursday night hoping to pick up two points against St Mary's whom they had beaten at home in an earlier round of the league. Unfortunately on the football pitch a team needs more than hope.

Carryduff didn't open their account until St Mary's scored their first goal. Carryduff responded to the home side's goal with some excellent play and managed to convert a couple of hard earned frees from the trusty boot of Cian Slevin. Cormac McCrory, Michael Conway, Connal Early all got in on the scoring sheet with a number of well taken goals and points. With twenty five minutes of the first half gone Carryduff led by 2-6 to 2-3.

The next five minutes saw St Mary's fist home two goals that were so similar one could have thought they were watching a replay on the big screen at Croke Park. These were the killer goals which ended any period of dominance Carryduff enjoyed throughout the game.

Half time St Mary's 4-03 Carryduff 2-06.

In the second half the pace of the game somewhat slowed and despite a number of well put together moves and brave performances by a number of individuals Carryduff never really got back into the match as St Mary's piled on a series of telling points to seal the game in their favour.

Best for Carryduff were Cian Slevin, Andy Moorhead, Neill McGowan, Cormac McCrory and Justin Stronge. None of the Carryduff team were on the end of disciplinary actions by the referee despite two yellows and a number of black book tickings by the referee on St Mary's players in what was at times an ill tempered affair.
