Brave Thirds Fall To Drumgath
The Thirds put on the best display of the year on
Sunday evening when Drumgath IIs visited for their
Reserve Championship clash.
Played at a very competitive pace, Drumgath made the
early running before a spirited Carryduff fightback
brought them back to within two points at the final
whistle.

Six Out Of Six For Carryduff Under 14 Ladies
Carryduff under 14 ladies travelled to Burren for
round 6 of the all County football league on Sunday
afternoon and continued with their unbeaten run.
The girls opened the game at a blistering pace
placing Burren immediately on the defensive
nonetheless the opening salvos all went wide an
unfortunate trend that would continue throughout the
game. Indeed Carryduff did not score until the 4th
minute when Erin Robinson converted a great point.
The pressure continued with good flowing football
and to Burren's credit they defended admirably
throughout the game. Emily Duffy settled the nerves
when she followed in and capitalised on a
goalkeeping error, calmly slotting the ball into the
back of the net. Emily added to her tally with
another goal and a point.
Ciara Crosbie worked tirelessly and was dominant in
the midfield area. Her runs from deep were rewarded
with two very well taken points. Ciara's influence
on the half along with Hanna Magorrian's was
significant. As the first half progressed the girl's
accuracy in front of the goal began to improve with
Emma Hannah and Fiona McCauley scoring a goal each.
Niamh Hughes got in on the act and helped herself to
a well earned point. Aoife Turner was unlucky not to
score.
Burren made several incursions into the Carryduff
half and although most of them were fended off by
the defence - Niamh Lenaghan, Maeve Toner, Meghan
Doherty Aoife O'Reilly and Emma Boyle - Burren
managed to score three points two of which at least
should have been goals only for Katy McCann's superb
saves. She parried both efforts over the bar.
HT: Burren 0-03 Carryduff 4-05
The second period was much more subdued probably due
to the clammy weather conditions however Carryduff
continued were they left off – in the driving
seat. Erin Robinson who played her best game of the
season was very impressive. Her work rate, movement
off the ball and penetrating runs was worthy of
note. She was rewarded with two additional points.
Left half back Emma Boyle continued with her
excellent run of form. Her ability to read the game
and clear danger is so simple and effective it is an
example to others. Team captain Aoife O'Reilly was
also very effective on the half back line. Aoife had
to contend with a spirited Burren half forward
however she won the encounter.
Niamh Molloy put in a good performance and for all
her hard work she scored an excellent point. Ciara
Crosbie's stamina beggars belief she never stopped
running throughout the game and again she added to
her tally with another point.
Centre half Fiona McCauley made a significant
contribution in supporting both the mid field and
full forward lines and had the final say. She
latched on to a misguided free kick and bagged a
well deserved point to add to her tally for the
game.
Substitutes Ciara Doherty Fiona Rodgers Niamh
NcGrath and Meghan Murtagh all performed very well.
The overall score did not reflect the number of
scoring opportunities created by the girls. They
missed a bag full of scores but on saying that the
final outcome was still very impressive. It was
pleasing to note there were seven scorers on the
day. A great team effort once again - well done to
everyone!

U12 Ladies Continue Fine Form
U-12B Ladies continued their recent good form with a
comfortable win at Tullylish on Saturday. Despite
travelling without several regular players, the
girls that lined out proved too strong for the home
side. With Laura Reid and Emma Papafio dominant at
midfield from the start Carryduff put the home side
under pressure early on without finding the target.
Eventually Emer Magennis landed the first point from
close range before livewire half-forward Emer
McGrady chipped over a second from the right hand
side. Carryduff continued to press forward and a
through ball from Katie Magorrian found Grace Bergin
unmarked in front of goals and she duly crashed the
ball to the net.
Sporadic Tullylish attacks were quickly snuffed out
by half-backs Amy Foy, Niamh Gorman and Shannon
Stronge who drove the ball forward to set up more
Carryduff raids. Emer Magennis grabbed a second goal
and a point before the break to leave half-time
score.
Tullylish 0-00 Carryduff 2-03
Rachel Moore and Rachel McCabe moved up front after
the break and the pair combined to set up Rachel
McCabe for an early point. Emer McGrady continued to
give the home defence a torrid time with her
twisting runs and she was rewarded with another
point. Sian Clifford came out from goals to join the
action during the second period which continued to
be mainly in the Tullylish half.
Another Katie Magorrian pass split the home defence
to find Rachel McCabe in front of goal and she spun
round her marker to drill the ball into the corner
of the net. Claire McGinnity fed up with a lack of
action at full back came upfield and put over a fine
point near the end to complete the scoring.

Carryduff Reserves Progress In Championship
Carryduff Reserves played Loughinisland in the
preliminary round of the Championship on Sunday.
Loughinisland started the best with 4 attempts on
the Carryduff goal in the first 5 minutes which
yielded two points. Richard Maguire at full back
took a few minutes to settle as he was once again
conceding height to the Loughinisland Full Forward.
However he was to stick to his task well to almost
nullify his opponents height throughout the game.
Carryduff opened their scoring on 6 minutes. A
measured pass to Paul Troope who in turn found
Richard Carey free 13 metres out. Richard drilled
the ball at pace and buried the ball in the back of
the net.
Both sides were wasteful in front of goal. The
Carryduff game plan had been to launch the ball into
the danger area. However over elaborate play was to
be our down fall with only one more point on the
board in the first half.
James Connery was fielding well and on the 14th
minute registered the point with a sweetly floated
shot from 30 metres out. Loughinisland registered
their four scores from play to lead by one point at
half-time.
Half-time score Carryduff 1-01 Loughinisland 0-05
Carryduff came out in the second half with renewed
vigour and determination. Carryduff scored 3 points
from play in the opening 6 minutes to settle the
nerves.
Points from Ryan O’Neill (2) and John Fitzsimons
(1) was to give Carryduff the confidence to believe
they could progress to next round. Loughinisland
aided and abated the cause by failing time after
time to hit the target.
If truth be told their failure to score a single
point in the second half was all down to a resolute
Carryduff defence. They harried the forwards at
every opportunity and forced Loughinisland to shoot
from distance.
Paul Troope got his own score on 11 minutes when he
caught the ball on the square and fisted over the
bar. Further points from Richard Carey (24) and
Ruairi McKay (27) helped to create a 5 point lead.
Good possession in the last 5 minutes meant their
was no way back for Loughinisland. The final score
the game was a well worked point from Richard Carey.
The ball was shepherded to Richard on the right wing
and he drove it over the black spot. Carryduff now
meet Burren in the first round proper.

Development Team Take On Drumaness
Carryduff u14 ladies travelled to Drumaness on
Wednesday night for their second friendly game of
the season.
In contrast to last week's game against Saul the
weather conditions last night were miserable
nonetheless both teams were undeterred and played an
entertaining game of football.
In a hotly contested game Drumaness started the
stronger, pressuring the Carryduff defence which
subsequently lead to a well taken Drumaness goal.
Then followed a battle for the midfield, Carryduff
made chances and were unlucky not to level the game
through fine efforts from Clare Lavery (capt) and
Niamh McGrath. Drumaness regrouped and fought back
to be rewarded with a goal and a point. Katie McCann
responded with a point following one of her
characteristic runs from the halfway line. The girls
kept the pressure on and Clare Lavery, who performed
superbly, scored a point. Drumaness finished the
half stretching their lead with three more points.
Drumaness 2-04 Carryduff 0-02
The girl's performance in the second half was full
of grit and determination. They came out fighting
and played with much more confidence moving the ball
quick and effectively around the field. This
resulted in Meghan Connery adding to her tally for
the season with a great goal and an point. Katie
McCann who worked tirelessly throughout scored a
"cracker" goal so good in fact the umpire,
Carryduff's Fionuala Lenaghan, could not contain
herself with delight.
Drumaness stretched their lead with another goal.
The girls sensed they could win the game but were
unfortunate not to capitalise on their hard work.
The girls missed several opportunities and Meghan
Connery was unlucky hitting the crossbar. The girl's
efforts were rewarded with a second half victory
over their opponents but it wasn't enough to win the
game.
There were notable improved performances from Emma
Boyd, Catriona Hynds, Meghan Murtagh, Rebecca
Coulter, Laura McGeough, Clare McKnight, Fiona
Rodgers, Ellen Hagan and Emily Hewitt. Well done to
all and keep up the good work!!!
By the way who was that referee, wasn't he
outstanding, his sense of fairness was an example to
all?!!!!

Under 16 Ladies Continue Winning Streak
The under 16 Ladies produced one of their best
performances of the year to beat Bryansford away in
their penultimate league match. With Saval beating
Burren to continue their unbeaten run Carryduff and
Burren will meet in Carryduff in their final match
on 24th June to determine the runners-up spot in the
All County League A Division.
In glorious sunshine in Newcastle Carryduff got off
to a great start when Erin Robinson scored 2-1 in
the opening ten minutes. It was clear that
Bryansford’s main threat was going to come from
midfielder Ciara Ward. Aoife O’Reilly quickly got
to grips with her and limited the threat for most of
the half. The dominance of Aoife and Emma Magorrian
at midfield gave a great platform for forwards to
built on and goals followed from Bronagh Kerr and
Alana Connery. Points were added by Kate McKay (3)
before Ciara Ward broke free to score a fine
individual goal. The Carryduff defence were solid
with Meadbh Magennis & Hannah Magorrian putting in
trademark performances down the middle, ably
assisted by Tara Bergin and Caoimhe Quinn.
Half Time: Carryduff 4-4 Bryansford 1-0
The second half began with an early point for
Bryansford before Carryduff took control again. A
further point from Erin Robinson was added to by
Kate McKay before Alison Hoy crowned her best
performance of the year with a well taken goal. At
the back Ciara Rooney put in a superb performance
particularly when she picked up a late experienced
Bryansford arrival who added power and pace to the
Bryansford attack. Julie Coulter and substitute
Megan Doherty launched attacks from the half back
line leading to an excellent goal for the hard
working Leanne Murray. Leanne and Alana Connery
worked tirelessly in the half forward line and
linked well between midfield and attack. Bryansford
did have their moments in the second half and Ciara
Ward added a further goal and a point. Katie McCann,
who had no chance on either goal, pulled off a
remarkable reflex save after the ball had deflected
goalwards of Tara Bergin. The score of the game
arose from strong Carryduff defending and quick
movement of
the ball which ended with substitute Niamh Molloy
who pointed in great style. Substitutes Emma Hanna
and Megan Murtagh joined the attack and linked up
well the other forwards while Ciara Doherty,
returning from injury, dealt well with a few high
balls in the remaining minutes.
Although Bryansford were understrength this was a
fine Carryduff performance.
