Liatroim Fontenoys

Newry Shamrocks
Liatroim Fontenoys broke Carryduff hearts to
claim victory in a very close and entertaining
Brackenvale Carryduff u12 Hurling Tournament.
Five teams representing Ballyvarley, Bredagh,
Clonduff, Liatroim and Newry Shamrocks joined
Carryduff in taking part in a Cup and Shield Tournament.
The Tournament began with a league section. Carryduff,
Clonduff and Newry Shamrocks were in Group A and
Ballyvarley, Bredagh and Liatroim in Group B.
Carryduff proved to be top dogs in A with wins
over both Clonduff and Shamrocks while a win for
Clonduff over the Newry men saw them join Carryduff
in the Cup section. Wins over Ballyvarley and
Bredagh saw Liatroim top the B section with Bredagh
joining them in the Cup.
Shamrocks had too much for Ballyvarley in the
Shield Final winning by 3-02 to no score. Congratulations
to Shamrocks.
In the first semi-final of the Cup, Carryduff
and Bredagh took on each other in another exciting
local derby (how many derbies have there been
this year!). The Duff boys did enough winning
by a goal to a point in a low scoring game. Clonduff
had no answer for an excellent Liatroim side in
the other semi-final notching 6-03 to 1-00.
The Final was another exciting game but unfortunately
from a Carryduff point of view, Liatroim edged
it by the narrowest of margins.

U13 Teams Off To Great Start
The U13 boys got off to a great start with their
league campaign. The A-Team won 5-18 to 1-02 away
to Loughinisland with a great team effort with
all subs called upon due to injuries. The game
at times was very physical & it was nice to
see that Carryduff could mix it.
The B-Team lost to Kilcoo A 2-10 to 2-06, which
was a very good result given the match was away
and Carryduff gave away 2 early goals. Well done
to both teams & their mentors.
Training on Wednesday night with B-Team away
to Bryansford & A-Team away to Drumaness next
Sunday.

St.Paul's U-12 Ladies Tournament
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carryduff girls found the going tough in their
section of St.Paul's tournament on Saturday. Played
in ideal conditions at sun drenched Boucher Road
pitches Carryduff came up against Crossmaglen
Rangers in their first game. In an evenly balanced
first half Cross took a two point lead before
Carryduff hit back with a point and then a fine
individual goal from Jessica Foy. Eadaoin Ni Charrain
was very unlucky to see a shot cannon back off
the crossbar before Cross hit back with a goal.
Just a point between the sides at the break,
however, Crossmaglen started the second period
strongly with a breeze at their backs they rattled
over five points in a row as Carryduff struggled
to get the ball out of their half. Eadaoin Ni
Charrain managed to get one point back before
a Cross goal finished the contest.
Next up were another Armagh club Clan Eireann
who raced into an early lead in the second game
taking advantage of some uncertain defending from
Carryduff. They hit two goals and a couple of
points before another Jessica Foy strike found
the net for Carryduff.
Laura Reid's entrance before the break had an
impact in the midfield battle and Carryduff began
to seize the initiative in the second period.
A fine run from Eadaoin ni Charrain was ended
by a foul close to the penalty area, the resultant
free was converted by Aine Kerr.
Carryduff stepped up the pressure and a 20m free
from Eadaoin ni Charrain was sent to the net.
This was followed by another goal from Sinead
Early who was a constant threat up front and when
Jessica Foy finished another sweeping move to
the net there was just a point between the teams.
However, the Lurgan side managed to lift the siege
on their goals to break away for a goal that secured
their victory.
Consolation for Carryduff came in their last
match aganst Tyrone side Killeshill. In a high
scoring contest Carryduff were always in front
scoring two goals in the first couple of minutes
through Early and Ni Charrain. Points from Amy
Hamill and Aine Kerr increased the margin before
Killeshill hit back with a couple of goals before
the break.
Carryduff continued to play quick ball into the
forwards after the break and were rewarded with
further goals from Aine Kerr, Jessica Foy. Sinead
Early and Emer McGrady before taking their foot
off the pedal to concede some late goals from
the Tyrone side.
Aside from the forwards who got the scores there
were some notable performances at the back from
Aimee Lavery and Shannon Stronge who were excellent
under pressure from top class opposition as were
Siobhan Cunningham and Laura Reid winning ball
in the middle of the park.
Well done to all the girls who took part and
to the supporters who turned up to cheer them
on. Saturday's action completes the U-12 season,
players and mentors can take a well earned rest!

U20's Begin With A Win
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carryduff Under 20’s started their campaign
with a comprehensive victory over a determined
St Josephs (Dundrum/Ballykinler). Carryduff played
attractive football throughout and demonstrated
great teamwork to continuously thwart and frustrate
St. Josephs. The Carryduff defence wase solid,
with Mark Morris ensuring Paul McComiskey’s
scoring was kept to a minimum. Two first half
goals from minors Neill McGowan and Darragh Brownlee
helped secure a 2-05 to 0-05 half-time score-line.
In the second half Carryduff ensured they were
not going to relinquish their commanding lead.
A piece of fast moving and free flowing football
involving Ruairí McKay, Sean Molloy and
Darragh Brownlee resulted in Conal Doherty latching
on to a pass and rifling to the net. Several well
executed points, including three in quick succession
from the trusted boot of Conall Early, meant Carryduff
finished the game in style.
