Carryduff GAA Club Notes 28th April 2008

2008 Cúl Camps

Carryduff are delighted to announce that we are hosting two Cúl Camps this year. The first from 30 June 2008 to 4 July 2008 just as the kids finish school for the summer and the other from 18 August 2008 to 22 August 2008 not long before they return to school for the new term.
The camps run from 10.00am to 2.30pm each day at the club pitches and are supervised by qualified coaches. In addition club members will be in attendance at all times to assist if parents need contacted or if children need to sit out for short periods. There will be a tuck shop available at break and lunch times.
Children can register for either or both camps and the cost is £30 per child per camp. At the end of each camp each child will receive a full Cúl Camp kit (jersey, shorts and socks) and a Cúl Camp bag. All this for £30!
An application form can be downloaded from the Club website. For convenience the form can be returned to the Club Secretary Eddie McCrory at 3 Knockbracken Crescent Carryduff or at the Club shop. Cheques should be made payable to Carryduff GAC.
Please make your returns as soon as possible so that we can alert the county co-ordinator of the number of coaches that will be required and so that the kits can be ordered. We don't want any children to be disappointed.
Last year the club hosted the largest Cúl Camp in the county. Lets make sure that we host the two largest in the county this year!
If you have any queries contact Eddie on 90814581.

Seniors Make It Four On The Trot
The seniors kept up their good run of form with a 7 point victory over St Paul's at a sun-baked Páirc Aodha Dhuibh on Sunday afternoon. The first half was a tight affair with Carryduff just ahead 0-5 to 0-4 at the break. However, a blistering opening to the second half which saw half forward Cian Slevin rattle the net after just 30 secs put Carryduff firmly in control. Final score Carryduff 1-09 St Paul's 0-05

U16 Ladies Defeat Burren

On Sunday afternoon the Carryduff Ladies u16 team had a big win over a very understrength Burren.
This was a very one sided match with the Carryduff Ladies setting the pace with early goals from Lee Ann Murray and Niamh Molloy.
These early scores set the trend for the rest of the match and the u16 ladies ran out easy winners on a score line of Ceathrú Aodha Dhuibh 8-15 Boireann 0-00

Senior Ladies Get Important Wins

The senior ladies scored an important double victory this week. On Monday evening the girls had a comfortable 3-18 to 1-05 victory at Loughinisland.
At Páirc Aodha Dhuibh on Sunday evening against table topping Bright the Duff girls blazed into a 12 point lead early on only for the Killough girls to pull back with five scores in a row. But Carryduff didn't scare and pulled away to record a comfortable 5-09 to 1-10 victory.

McKays Performing Well For County

Despite the Down Minor Ladies suffering defeat at the hands of Tyrone at the weekend, the McKay girls Emer and Kate put in very strong displays.

St Joseph's Field In Hurling

St Joseph's Primary fielded their first hurling squad last week in a challenge at Downpatrick winning two of the four games!
Well done to Principal Dominic Donnelly, Schools Liaison Officer, Mark McCartan and of course all the lads themselves!

Seven Carryduff County Stars!

Seven Carryduff players travelled with the Down Under 15 Development squad which took part in an Ulster Hurling Blitz in Monaghan last Saturday.
Fielding without Ards players, the Down team was expected to struggle but performed creditably losing out by just 5 points to a strong Antrim team in their final game.
All the Carryduff players featured during the tournament. Daniel McGlinchey was a star at midfield while Conor Cassidy was rock solid at centre full back. Centre full forward Eoin Conway laid on many of the Down scores while Niall McArdle performed well in the half forward line.
Luke Elliott, Conor O Neill and James Lavery also put in sterling work in defence and will be hopeful of retaining their place in future games.
Well Done to all concerned and thanks to Eugene Irwin of Bredagh who provided the pictures.

U14(A) Enjoy Big Win

Despite conceding two early goals, the u14 A footballers stormed to a very impressive 6-21 to 2-01 victory over Downpatrick at Páirc Aodha Dhuibh on Thursday evening.
The 'B' game was postponed due to a special Mass being held at Our Lady & St Patrick's College.

U12 Ladies Draw With St Peter's

U-12 Ladies travelled down to Lurgan on Sunday for a challenge game v St.Peter's. Their first competitive action of the season was a spirited encounter against a well-drilled outfit.
St.Peter's started strongly but it was Carryduff that opened the scoring with a point from Eadaoin ni Charrain. A foul on the same player was punished by a pointed free from Amy Hamill. St.Peter's replied with a goal before Eadaoin ni Charrain pounced on a rebound to goal for Carryduff.
St.Peter's upped the pressure and despite determined defending they struck for a second goal. Eadaoin ni Charrain put Carryduff ahead again with a second goal but two late points from St.Peter's levelled the game at the break.
The home side began strongly after the interval and were soon back in front through a goal. However, Carryduff struck back with Sinead Early hitting the net.
Sian Clifford pulled off a great save to deny St.Peter's before the home side reeled off three points in a row. Yet again Eadaoin ni Charrain struck back with a goal for the visitors.
Katie Magorrian hit two points in the final period in what proved to be an encouraging performance by the Carryduff girls in their first match.
Final Score St.Peter's 3-05 Carryduff 4-02

Congratulations to Decky, Danny and Conor

Declan Doherty has achieved a first for Carryduff with his selection on the County 'A' minor hurling squad for Down's forthcoming Championship campaign. While Carryduff have had a number of players on Down 'B' panels, Declans promotion to the main County panel is not only well deserved recognition for a talented player but also represents another step in Carryduff's progress in hurling circles.
Well Done also to Daniel Mc Glinchey and Conor Cassidy. Both boys played on the Our Lady and St Patricks, Knock team which annexed an Ulster Hurling title today. The school team overcame St Patricks Keady in the BT Kirk Cup final with Danny contributing 1-01 in a comprehensive 3-15 to 1-07 victory.

U12B Footballers Suffer First Defeat

Carryduff U12 Bs suffered their first defeat in the League away to Dundrum on a scoreline of 2-09 to 2-04.
Two goals first half gave Dundrum a strong headstart and only some fine interceptions from goalkeeper Patrick Rice prevented Carryduff failing further behind. Carryduff forwards were denied a number of goal chances by a resolute Dundrum back line.
The second half saw a much improved performance with Kieran Gillan and Andrew Turner, prominent. Sean Shuttleworth used his height advantage well, to punch two goals and a point as the Carryduff team fought their way back into the game. However time ran out and Dundrum were worthy five point victors.
