Carryduff hosts First Cúl
Camp of the year
Despite the changeable weather, 113 children enjoyed
what was the first Carryduff Cúl Camp of
the summer, the first Down Cúl Camp of the
summer and the first Integrated Cúl Camp.
Given the links the Club has developed through
its Community Outreach Initiative with Glenveagh
Special School it was obvious that when planning
this years Cúl Camps in Carryduff provision
had to be made to include special needs coaching.
Thanks to the full backing of Una McKay, the Ulster
Councils Special Needs Coaching Coordinator and
the Down County Board the Club was able to host
a fully Integrated Cúl Camp. >From the
outset it was obvious that the children of Carryduff
were delighted to welcome their new friends from
Glenveagh, making sure to include them in all
the activities of the week. Una was full of praise
for the children of Carryduff saying that "they
were the most welcoming children I have met".
A browse through the Photogallery will show how
well the children from Glenveagh and Carryduff
enjoyed each others company.
All the kids were particularly delighted to welcome
a host of County Stars to Páirc Aodha Dhuibh.
Michaela Downey, Karen Gribben and Kyla Trainor
represented the Down Senior Ladies, Benny Coulter
the Senior Mens team, Paula Gribben the Down camogs
and also dual star Aileen Pyers. On behalf of
the Club and all the participants we would like
to pass on our thanks to both Una and Michaela
of the Ulster Council and to the coaches from
the Down Cúl Camps who made the week such
a success. All the coaches, including Benny Coulter,
were very complementary of the footballing skills
of the Carryduff children.
Thanks also must go to Club Coordinator Eddie
McCrory for organising the week, Edna McConville
and Maria Bradley for making endless cups of tea
and making a beautiful lunch for the coaches,
Aoife OReilly, Katie McCann and Caoimhe McCrory
for looking after the shop and Liam McLornan for
helping clear up every day.
Already 120 kids have registered for the second
camp in August with many of the kids at the camp
this week enjoying themselves so much that they
are coming back for a second dose! The application
form is available to download on the website homepage.

TV Cameras Visit Páirc Aodha Dhuibh
Wednesday saw the first visit of TV Cameras to
Páirc Aodha Dhuibh when the crew from new
Irish Language programme Preab Suas came along
to record the first in a series of features on
Gaelic Games, Culture & Community.
Aimed at an audience aged 13 to 21 years old
and linked to BBC Northern Ireland’s Irish
language unit and a number of related websites,
it is hoped that as well as teaching Irish, Preab
Suas will act as a catalyst for promoting the
use of the language through bite-size gaelic games
themed films.
The TV broadcasts of the short films will be
supported by a dedicated website and will be available
as mobile downloads, for use on the pitch. Televised
features will comprise short, engaging presenter-led
coaching videos, containing coaching drills and
training sessions.
When Waddell Media approached the Ulster Council
for ideas for the programmes, Una McKay the Antrim
and Down Regional Officer suggested that following
a young Irish speaking coach at this week’s
Integrated Cúl Camps in Carryduff would
make a great opening programme. We were fortunate
that coaching this week was Club member &
gaelgoir Cormac McCrory. In a shoot that lasted
all day, Cormac spoke eloquently of his love of
Gaelic games and culture and what the Club community
means to him. The cameras followed him as he led
coaching sessions involving players from the Club
and Glenveagh Special School.
The film crew was full of praise for the work
being done by the Club in relation to Gaelic games,
culture and community and opening the sport to
children with disabilities. The shows director
also commented that the broadcast from Carryduff
had set a very high standard for the series!
Preab Suas is due to air in the autumn. Make
sure to see the part were Bredagh Senior Ladies
player Una shouts "Up Carryduff!".

Suzie Double Helps Senior Ladies Through In Close
Encounter
This was a hard fought 1st round Championship
match played at Tullylish against Ballymartin.
In the opening period Carryduff started strongly.
Both teams traded points with Carryduff’s
Suzanne Baxter hitting three. The Carryduff backs
dominated with Donnla Fisher playing well and
getting good support from Aine Molloy, Emma Swail,
Rhiannon McBay Doherty and Maeve Magennis. Carryduff
ladies should have built up a big lead at this
but had too many misses and were unlucky when
two close in shots rebounded off the woodwork.
At midfield Kate and Eimear McKay had the edge
while up front Claire McCourt, Niambh Molloy,
Alannah Connery, Eadaoin Early and Ciara Doherty
all had good games. Towards the end of this half
Suzanne Baxter worked her way through for two
well taken goals to leave the half time score
Carryduff 2-04 Ballymartin 0-05
One the resumption of play the Ballymartin ladies
put in a much stronger challenge. They took four
long range points and then got in for a goal.
Carryduff were on the back pedal and Ballymartin’s
dominance edged them into a two point lead. Catherine
Sloan kept the Carryduff’s ladies hopes
alive with some good saves while Donnla Fisher
repeatedly cleared her lines. Substitutes Ciara
and Catherine Rooney worked hard. Carryduff fought
back and in particular Suzanne Baxter, Kate McKay
and Leanne Murray were instrumental in turning
this game around. Kate McKay got three points
and in the closing minutes Suzanne Baxter (with
a personal tally of 2-6) finished the Ballymartin
challenge off be hitting the two winning points.

to action and some excellent kicking from Chris
McConville helping Carryduff to a 0-12 to 0-07
win.
