Seniors And Reserves Notch Up Wins
Over Glenelly
Whilst the rest of Division Three were opening their
season, Carryduff Seniors and Reserves used the
bye to notch up wins over useful opposition. Glenelly
from Division Three in Tyrone, proved to be physical
and stern opponents in the final friendly before
the season proper.
First half goals from Chris O’Neill, Ben
Fitzsimons and Tony McMahon together with points
by Ciaran Conway (2) and Richard Carey (1) helped
Carryduff to a useful lead. Glenelly seemed initially
a bit jaded by the journey but responded well
with their 5 first half points shared between
the full forward and left half forward. Half Time
Score Carryduff 3-03 Glenelly 0-5.
In the second half Carryduff appeared to falter
and Glenelly hit a purple spell. Once again all
5 Glenelly points came from the same two players.
For Carryduff it was satisfying to see a range
of players getting on the score sheet. Well taken
scores from Barry O’Neill (1), Conor Gardner
(2), Mark Morris (1), Ben Fitzsimons (1) and John
Lavery (1) helped the Seniors to run out worthy
winners by 3-09 to 0-10.
Carryduff Reserves followed up in style with
a Score-Line of 0-14 to 1-04. Man of the Match,
Ronan McLaughlin scored a phenomenal 9 points,
including 5 points from play. The other scores
came from Richard Carey (1), Andy Moorehead (1),
John Fitzsimons (2) and Tony McMahon (1).
The day was highly successful with both Clubs
feeling their Senior and Reserve Squads were stretched
sufficiently in the countdown to the season. Thanks
to the players who made sandwiches for the day
and those who worked behind the scenes in assisting
at the Clubhouse in making tea and clearing up
afterwards. It was much appreciated by the Senior
Management Team and their squads. Thank you also
to referre Eugene O'Hare who handled the match
with the expertise we have come to expect of him.
Finally thanks are extended to Glenelly in making
the journey with a large squad of 37 players.
Hopefully at some stage in the future, we can
return the favour by travelling to Glenelly, for
a pre-season challenge.

Minors Comfortable Win In Lurgan
The minors travelled to Lurgan last Wednesday
to play their first friendly of the year against
Clann Eireann and came home comfortable victors.
Carryduff's victory was a result of good combination
play and determination but was contributed to
by the home teams lack of football prior to the
match. Carryduff were the sharper team from the
start and dominated possession.
Early goals from Neil McGowan and Ryan Murdock
confirmed Carryduff’s domination in the
game over a Lurgan side that managed two pointed
frees and created little to trouble the Carryduff
defence. A fine block by Ryan Forrest thwarted
their only goal bound effort.
The second half continued in a similar vein.
An early pointed free by Clann Eireann was followed
by almost total domination by Carryduff as the
Lurgan side visibly tired. An opportunistic goal
from Gary Morris capped a good performance all
round.
Much tougher tasks shall lie ahead for the minors
as they prepare for the All County League at the
start of April.
