Reserves Gain Revenge in Terry Lawlor Cup
After their narrow defeat by Dromara Seniors
in the 2007 final, Carryduff Reserves exacted
revenge on Sunday. The traditional pre-season
tournament saw an honest and hard hitting contest.
Carryduff opened the scoring with a point from
a free by Chris McConville and a rare point from
play by half back Mark Morris. However Dromara
cancelled out the lead with a well taken goal
which left Jason Scott no chance.
Carryduff found it difficult to find space in
front of goal and hit 8 wides in total. Points
from Kevin McGoran and Chris McConville and a
30 metre free from Ryan O’Neill helped to
cancel out Dromara’s two points from play.
Half Time Score Carryduff 0-5 Dromara 1-02.
Carryduff started the second half assuming they
were playing with the wind. In reality the need
to run with the ball and to retain possession
was evident. Superior fitness and a grim determination
to bring the Cup back to Carryduff won the day.
Scoring was opened by Ruairí McKay with
a driven shoot after a beautiful passage of play
involving several players. Substitute James Connery
then got in on the act with a catch, turn and
kick that split the posts. Midfielder Tony McMahon
took responsibility with a point from distance.
Further points from Chris McConville, Paul O’Neill
and John Fitzsimmons all executed with precision
allowed Carryduff to run out worthy winners. Carryduff
demonstrated an excellent defence display to keep
Dromara scoreless in the second half.

Down Hurlers Win At Carryduff
Declan Doherty captained the Down Minor B team
to victory against Armagh in Carryduff yesterday.
His two first half goals paved the way for a 5-9
to 0-13 victory.
Down were also ably assisted by Conor Beattie
who dominated at midfield and by Conal Early whose
solid defensive display at corner back helped
ensure the Armagh attack remained 'goal-less'
throughout.
Well done to all three Carryduff boys and good
luck to the team with their remaining Ulster League
fixtures.

Music Classes Prove A Hit
The Club's first week of Music classes has proved
to be a big hit with over 50 people coming along
to learn a traditional instrument and have a bit
of craic.
The classes run for the next ten weeks with more
planned for the autumn.
The classes will help provide the Club with musicians
for Scór and other events and also to bring
people along to the Club who may not have been
involved in the past.
Classes coordinator Fionnuala Leneghan was delighted
how it went, "it was great to see so many
adults and young folk taking part. There was a
great buzz in the Clubhouse. It was lovely to
hear strains of Irish music for the first time."
