U8 (M) Start With A Win

The u8 Footballers who beat Tir na nOg, Randalstown,
in their first competitive game of the season.
Carryduff sent two teams to Tir na nOg, Randalstown,
for their first competitive games of the seasons.
The older under 8 team produced a very strong
display scoring 11goals and 10 points to 1 goal
and 2 points. Top scoring Ryan Tweedy (3-03)
along with Rory Reilly (1-01) dominated midfield
with strong displays of attacking football from
Ciaran Sherry (1-00), Eoin Maguire (1-02), Conor
Dunlop (2-00) , and Tommy Connery (2-02) scoring
a majestic point from wide on the right. Defensively,
Carryduff curtailed Tir na nOg to only 3 scores,
mainly due to excellent displays from Conal
Haigney, Simon Turkington (0-01), and Johnny
Wilson.
The younger under 8 team, many of whom were
playing their first competitive game for Carryduff,
defeated Tir na nOg 6 goals and 2 points to
1 goal and 2 points. Lorcan Toal (0-01) providing
the score of the game, was the result of a hand
passing move involving four players, out of
defence into attack, before reaching Lorcan,
who from distance, dissected the posts. A move
that would grace any pitch, at any level of
football.
Defensively Adam Loughran, Ryan Docherty, Michael
Lawson, and Eoin Haigney were solid, with Jack
Rafferty, Paul Docherty, and Daniel McCrudden
(1-01) working tirelessly in mid field.
In attack Conor McKeever (1-01) took a great
score from a very acute angle, with strong displays
from Patrick McGonnigle (1-00) and Caolain Cunningham
(1-00).
Many Thanks to Tir na nOg Randalstown for their
hospitality and organisation, even down to the
beautiful weather.

U12 Ladies Make It Two From Two
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On a cool Wednesday evening Carryduff faced
a tough Kilcoo team in their Round 2 League
match. The visitors started strongly, attacking
from the throw in and putting Carryduff under
immediate pressure. However within five minutes
the home team settled resisting Kilcoo's early
onslaught with some great defending.
Surviving the early Kilcoo blitz, Carryduff
then took control of the game with excellent
passing from the backline through to the front.
In the first half the great ball control saw
Eimear McGrady and Eadaoin Ui Chiarrain score
a goal each for Carryduff.
The solid defence helped stifle most attempts
by Kilcoo to penetrate Carryduff's last quarter
and limited the visitors to one goal and a point
in the first half of the game. Carryduff had
to keep their concentration at all times in
what at times was a very physical game. Strong
challenges by the visitors did not however deter
a fired up Carryduff team and they finished
the first half with a further three points scored
by Eimear McGrady, Katie Magorrian and Sinead
Early.
The second half saw Carryduff continue where
they had left off. Eadaoin Ui Chiarrain, Eimear
McGrady and Katie McKenna each scored a goal.
However Kilcoo continued to fight bravely and
put Carryduff under pressure during sustained
periods in the second half resulting in a further
goal and a point for the visitors.
Carryduff made a number of substitutions and
all the new players continued to make great
contributions helping Carryduff to finish the
game as convincing winners.

U12 Ladies Win Opening Fixture
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A very convincing performance and win by Carryduff
against a younger and smaller Newry team in
their first league match of the season.
With the absence of a number of their more
experienced players Newry faced an onslaught
from the start by a rampant Carryduff team.
Early points were scored by Amy Foy, Eadaoin
Beatty and Katie Magorrian with Eadaoin Ui Chiarrain
putting in Carryduff's first goal. This was
the start of a goal blitz by the visiting team,
with Sinead Early scoring three goals and three
points. However a fantastic performance by Newry's
brave goalkeeper, Roisin Kelly, thwarted Carryduff's
forwards on many occasions.
The second half saw Newry bring on a number
of stronger players who had a major influence
on the game. The home team's strong half-back
took control of Newry's attacks helping push
their forwards into striking positions.
Claire Boyd for Carryduff had the tough job
of marking Newry's influential player but rose
to the challenge with some great tackles.
Newry's new found pressure resulted in a point
and a goal, scored from a penalty late into
the second half. Carryduff finished the match
as convincing winners against a brave Newry
side.
Another great team performance by all the Carryduff
players.

Seniors Lose At Drumaness
Despite a blistering start, the seniors lost
their ACFLII game at Drumaness on Friday evening
by 2-08 to 1-05.
A point from Ronan McLaughlin followed by a
third minute goal from Barry O'Neill put Carryduff
in command. The Duff men maintained the pressure
on the home side for most of the first half
but never capitalised with points on the board.
The half time score was Drumaness 0-04 Carryduff
1-04
Drumaness got the perfect start to the second
half with a goal in the first minute. With Drumaness
piling forward the Carryduff backline was under
constant pressure. A penalty broke Carryduff's
resolve as Drumaness ran out the comfortable
winners.
