Minors Crowned B Champions!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Minors won the Clubs first male All County Championship title since 1986 on Saturday in Downpatrick. Playing against the wind in the first half Carryduff took the early lead with a brace of points from Conall Early. Longstone responded with a period of dominance in which they scored 3 unanswered points. With Gary Morris, Rory McCormick and Conor Beatty getting a grip on the midfield area Carryduff hit their stride and a fine goal from Darragh Brownlee was followed by points from Darragh Brownlee, Rory McCormick and a great free kick by Darragh Goodwin. Longstone were reduced to 14 men shortly afterwards and Carryduff finished the half with points from Ryan Murdock and Darragh Brownlee with two points from Longstone sandwiched in between. Ronan Smyth, Conor Cunningham and Ryan Forrest defended resolutely throughout the first half and prevented any clearcut goal chances being created. Ciaran Lavery controlled his area well dealt with everything that came his way. The half time score was Carryduff 1-07 Longstone 0-05.

The second half started with an exchange of points, Darragh Brownlee scoring for Carryduff. With the half back line of Conor McCullough, Justin Stronge and Shane Flaherty dominant Carryduff continued to play the game in the Longstone half and a point from Conor McCullough opened up a 6 point lead. Longstone proceeded to lose their discipline and had two further players sent off. Carryduff used the extra players well and good work from Conor Beatty, Darragh Goodwin and Neill McGowan led to points for Darragh Brownlee and Ryan Murdock. A second goal by Darragh Brownlee put the game beyond Longtone and further points from Shane Flaherty, Conall Early and Ryan Murdock left the final score Carryduff 2-14 Longstone 0-8.

Carryduff produced a fine footballing and disciplined performance throughout and were worthy winners. The absence of Declan Doherty and Thomas Atherton was countered by a whole hearted team performance on front of a large Carryduff support.

The minor management would like to thank the players for the effort they have put in all year and the supporters who have been with the team throughout the year.

U14 Ladies Unbeated Run Comes To An End!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carryduff ladies were beaten for the first time in 3.5 years in the County final on Saturday afternoon. In a gripping match in which the Duff ladies did not play to their full potential, Ballymartin ended their amazing run and prevented Carryduff's attempt to retain their Championship title.

The first half was a scrappy affair with both teams fighting hard to get the upper hand. Ballymartin opened the scoring immediately followed by a great score converted by Carryduff's Jessica Foy. Ballymartin took the lead again when Jessica Collins converted an easy chance. Carryduff responded through Siobhan Cunningham who reacted quickest in a goal mouth scrap and thumped the ball into the back of the net. The scoring continue on a "tit for tat" basis with Ballymartin finishing the half with a two point lead. The deficit could've have been much higher but only for the heroics of Carryduff's goalkeeper Clare McKnight (player of the match) and full back Emily Duffy(captain)

Carryduff opened the second half at a blistering pace and had Ballymartin on the back foot. The Duff ladies totally dominated the opening 17 minutes of the half but for all the pressure they could only score a goal and a point both superbly executed by Fiona McCauley. Several goal chances went a begging and if converted it would have, without doubt, given the ladies a firm grip on the game. However as the half progressed Ballymartin through sheer determination gradually worked their way back into the game. They fought and scrapped hard and placed the Duff defence under huge pressure resulting in a penalty being awarded. Tara Bowater confidently converted it and both teams were on level terms once again.

Ballymartin sensing they could win the game continued with their onslaught and although Carryduff did respond through an excellent effort taken by Ciara Crobie the Duff defence couldn't withstand the pressure. The opposition finished the game with a five point margin and ended Carryduff's hopes of a second successive title.

Although the ladies were bitterly disappointed with their performance and of course losing the final they can still be very proud of their achievements this season having retained their County League Crown.

U14 Boys Disappointed

Hard luck to the u14 boys who were beaten in the County Final by Rostrevor. They have served their club, families & themselves well with great success over the last 12 months winning the u13 & u14 East Down Leagues plus the u14 East Down Championship.

Whilst the boys are very disappointed it was new territory for the boys to play in an All County Final & hopefully the experience will stand to them in the future.

There will be no training on either Tuesday or Thursday this week with a training session on Sunday 05 October at 12pm.
