Castlewellan Notes 9th July 2007
Naomh Maolmhoig Caislean A Mhuilinn
(St Malachy’s GAC Castlewellan)
Club Notes for week-ending July14th
Games Round-up.
Castlewellan senior hurlers put up another great
performance in St Malachy’s Park on Wednesday
night to secure their fourth win in succession
in the AC Division 2 Hurling League beating
Clonduff 3.9 to 1.6. Castlewellan scorers were
Tom Jennings (0-04), Neil Mc Veigh (1-04),
Steven Rodgers (1-00), Andrew Richie (1-01).
Unfortunately our senior footballers had no such
luck against the yellows on Friday night in a
fog bound St Malachy’s Park. If this had been an
airport planes would not have been allowed to
take- off but the referee felt there was no such
danger for the teams and so he allowed this AC
Division 1 game to take-off with spectators left
to guess were the ball might be at any given
moment. As it was only possible to see one set
of goals the choice had to be which set to see.
Those who chose the Castlewqellan goals made the
right choice as Clonduff bagged two to
Castlewellan’s nil. Final score in this stop
start game was Castlewellan (0.11), Clonduff
(2.09).
Thankfully there was no serious injuries with
the exception of Ciaran McCabe who suffered a
head injury as a result of a collision. The
minor footballers were knocked out of the
Championship last week by Burren as a result of
a lot of bad Castlewellan play. The final score
was Castlewellan 3.05 to Burren’s 2.18. Scores
for Castlewellan were Gerard Rice (1.02), Colm
McVeigh (1.0), Donagh Steele (1.0), Colm
Flanagan ().3). Best for Castlewellan were Colm
Flanagan and Donagh Steele.
The U16 footballers went down badly away to
Mayobridge on Monday 2nd July in the
ACL when they were beaten 4.17 to just 0.2
solitary points, and our U16 hurlers were also
beaten by our Fontenoy neighbours by just 2
points 0.7 to 1.02.
