Castlewellan Notes 10th June 2007

(St Malachy’s GAC Castlewellan)
Club Notes for week-ending June 16th
Games:
A bad week at the office for all our teams this
week with no victories in any code. Starting
with the U12 Camogs, Castlewellan hosted
Ballycran on Saturday for the first round in the
U12 Championship. Although Ballycran were the
eventual winners of this match Castlewellan did
not allow it to be a walk in the park. Despite a
tremendous display from all players Castlewellan
lost narrowly. Final Score: Ballycran 1-0
Castlewellan 0-0. Team: Louise McCabe, Finola
Rice, Sinead Sweeney, Ciara Gibson, Padraigin
Hawkins, Aoife Keown, Catherine Collins, Shannon
Rice, Dearbháil Boyle, Anna Rogan, Rion Doyle,
Sarah McArdle, Nicola McCabe, Anna Fegan,
Following this match Castlewellan will now be
entered in the U12 Shield. Training as usual
this Tuesday (12th) at the Bann Road,
6.20 – 7.30pm
Next Match:
Saturday 16th June, U14 league v Ballygalget
(A). All players to meet at Club at 11.30am.
Due to this fixture there will be no camogie
training on Saturday morning. Tuesday 19th
June U14 league v Bredagh (A). All players to
meet at Club at 5.00pm.
No luck either
for our U12 hurlers who didn’t do so well at
last Saturdays GO Games.
The U14 footballers drew with St John’s in the
ACL 4.6 to 3.9
and the U16 footballers went down badly to
Bryansford loosing 4.17 to 1.5. A bad week for
our senior hurlers too loosing to Warrenpoint on
a score line of 3.8 to 0.8. Also loosing in the
Ulster league to Sean Tracey’s from Lurgan.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment of the week
was loosing at home last Friday night to our
neighbours Kilcoo in the ACSFL on a score line
0.7 to Kilcoo’s 1.5. A big disappointment for
the town lads in what was one of their best
games and one were Kilcoo would concede the town
should have won. Castlewellan dominated for most
of the game but missed too many chances which if
they had of been taken would have put the game
beyond the reach of the magpies. Leading by two
points into extra time the town felt that
victory was ours but a good opportune last
second goal by Kilcoo clinched the game for
them by the narrowest of margins. We now know
how Loughinisland must have felt when we done
the same to them in a carbon copy last minute
goal away to the island. Hopefully we will have
a better all round set of results next week.
Tonight Wednesday Minor Championship away to
Ballymartin 7.45pm.
