Club Notes for
week-ending 19th May
The under 12
girls started their league campaign with an
outing at home to Kilcoo and this was a very
impressive performance from a team with only one
training session behind them The match started
at a frantic pace with the Town putting a lot of
pressure on from the throw in Tierna , Leeann
and Saoirse in the half backs took every first
time ball and delivered it to midfield where
Shannon and Caoimb were in a class of their
own. The pacey Aoife and dead eye Sarah made
sure all the hard work by the team was put to
good use scoring 3 goals and 4 points between
them The second half saw Castlewellan take total
control and though it took a little while to get
used to the smaller goals they started to put
the ball in the back of the net. Orlaigh worked
very hard tackling back when possession was lost
There was some excellent play by some of the
younger members of the team Haley, Clare, Amy,
Dearbhla making some excellent runs and tackles
Altogether it was an excellent team performance
from Emma in Goals to the full forward line.
Our U12 hurlers
were beat by the narrowest of margin by a strong
Carryduff side 2.03 to 2.02 but the lads played
very well and show promise for the future. The
U16 hurlers had a great win over Clonduff 4.04
to 0.3, and the U16 footballers beat Kilclief in
the Championship 9.19 to 0.6. The U14’s meet
Leitrim on Thursday night in the championship so
good luck lads and a great win last week against
Downpatrick in the league beating the hoops 6.05
to 0.10.
With the
exception of our senior hurlers who beat
Ballygalget our other senior teams didn’t fair
so well with both the senior men and the senior
ladies both loosing their games, the ladies to
Saval and the men to Bryansford. As expected the
local derby game between the Town and the Ford
went to the wire with only a point separating
the teams when the final whistle went. A much
better performance by the Town lads than recent
games and the loss of Crilly and McAlarney early
in the second half was a major blow to the town
fortunes.
