Club Notes for week-ending November 10th
Scor Na Og: Castlewellan did very well at
the East Down Scor Na Og finals on Sunday
past with 3 acts qualifying for the County
Finals.Congratulations to Orla McCrickard
who came 1st in solo singing, to Kirsty McAleese
who came 1st in recitation and Orla mcCrickard,
Niall McCrickard and Eimear Walsh who came
1st in traditional music section. Good luck
in the County finals on Sunday 2nd Dec in
Saval at 3pm and could as many members as
possible come and support these young people.
They are a credit to our club.
U20’s: Castlewellan U20’s were
beat in extra time by Bryansford in the East
Down final on Sunday past in St Patrick’s
Park. Castlewellan didn’t play to their
full potential and Bryansford were the deserving
winners in this local derby final although
both sides were evenly matched for most of
the game. A penalty awarded to Bryansford
half way through the first half allowed the
ford to take the lead temporarily until a
great Liam McKibben goal put the town back
in the lead consolidated with a further town
goal when Castlewellan were awarded a penalty
easily converted by Kevin Duffin and at half
time Castlewellan were leading by 2 points
on a score line of 2.05 to 1.06. Much of the
second half both sides exchanged points although
towards the final whistle Bryansford were
beginning to dominate mostly due to the work
rate of the fords Conor Maginn. However the
town lads held out and at the final whistle
both sides were level , Castlewellan 1.12
to Bryansford’s 2.09. Two early frees
awarded to Bryansford in the first half give
them a two point advantage and while the town
lads tried to recover their best efforts went
wide of the post and their failure to take
any scores in extra time cost them the final
with the ford going on to win by three points.
Final score Bryansford 1.15, Castlewellan
2.09. Castlewellan scorers Kevin Duffin (1.0),
Barry Travers (0.2), Luke Toner (0.1), Liam
McKibben (1.03), Cahal Crilly (0.02), Colm
Flanagan (0.01).
