Naomh Maolmhoig Caislean A Mhuilinn
(St Malachy's GAC Castlewellan Club Notes for week-ending September 15th

Last week proved o be a bad week for good results right across the board with all Castlewellan teams. Our U14’s had a poor finish to their league campaign when they were beaten by Kilcoo at St Malachy’s Park last Monday evening No such luck either for our minor hurlers also beaten in the league by Laitroim and our U12 camogs bowed out of the Championship on Friday also beaten by a more experienced Laitriom side. To crown it all our senior ladies were beaten in the senior ladies championship by a much superior Brynsford side. Our girls started off very well with Lisa Morgan running rampage through the Ford defence scoring 3 points in quick succession and Paula Clelland and Kitty Keown also adding to the tally before Noleen O’Higgins found the net following a superb pass from Lisa. However it wasn’t all one way traffic in this first half as Bryansford answered Castlewellan’s scoring point for point as well as registering at least six wides and a number of near misses for goal, and at the end of the first half it was the Castlewellan goal that separated both sides on a score line of 1.06 to 0.7 for the town. However the second half was to tell a different story with Bryansford completely dominating the game in every sector of the field and scoring 2 goals and 14 points while Castlewellan could only manage 5 points leaving the ford decisive winners in this semi-final clash. Bryansford will now face Clonduff in the Championship final and we wish our Bryansford neighbours all the best in the final. Good luck to our senior footballers who travel to Dublin this week-end to defend their Kilmacud Sevens All-Ireland title.
