Castlewellan G.A.C Clubnotes 23rd April
2008
• Everyone at the club wishes a speedy
recovery to senior player Niall McArdle
who had an operation on his knee last week.
Diagnosis wasn’t as bad as first feared
and he hopes to be back training within
the next 6-8 weeks.• Deepest sympathies
to the Doherty family on the death of Patrick’s
brother Francis. A Mhuire na nGael gui air.
• The Seniors had a challenge match
against St.Galls in the Meadow on Friday
evening and ran out comfortable 1.16-0.6
winners with Ciaran McCabe getting the goal.
Their first match is Wednesday evening away
to Clonduff.
•
The Under 12 Camogie team travelled to Ballyvarley
on Saturday with an under strength team.
Although a number of their main players
were missing the younger players showed
their mettle by recording an 8 goal win.
Finola rice scored 4 goals and was ably
assisted by Cliona Mc Comiskey, Nicola McCabe
(1.0) and Caitlin Burns. The midfield trio
of Aoife Keown (3.0) Anna Rogan and Caitriona
Caldwell worked tirelessly backed up by
good defensive work of Saoirse Steele and
Katie Savage. Well done to all the girls
as this is their second win of the season
having accounted for Dromara last Wednesday
evening last when they won 9.0-0.0.

£6,000.
• Fixtures: Minor footballers are
home to St. Johns tonight 7pm, 2nds footballers
are away to Burren at 2pm next Sunday, the
Senior hurlers are home against Clonduff
at next Tuesday at 7pm, Senior footballers
away to Clonduff at 7pm on Wednesday and
the Senior ladies have a big match against
Clonduff in the Meadow next Sunday at 7pm.
• The Ladies Senior football team
recorded their 3rd straight win with victory
over Saval on Sunday night. The score line
of 6.19 to 3.08 does not flatter the performance
with the goals coming from Kelly O’Higgins(3),
Paula Clelland(2) and Lisa Morgan. After
a slow start Castlewellan played very stylish
first time football that Saval had no answer
to with some beautifully taken scores from
seven different players. The full forward
line of the O’Higgins sisters and
Paula Clelland wreaked havoc throughout
the hour scoring at will. The entire team
played very well but special mention must
go to the performances of Karen McMullan,
Mairead Hardy & Lisa Morgan. Next up
for Castlewellan is an away date with Downpatrick
on Monday night.
