Club Lotto now £6950, well worth
a quid!
Congratulations to our U-12 Girls on winning
the May Steele Tournament- see report elsewhere
in the paper.
Good Luck to our senior men in the championship
against Bryansford on Friday night.
Our seconds had a fine victory over Byransford
on Sunday in the Meadow thanks to good performances
from Daniel Morgan and Kieran McCabe among
others.
U-14 Hurling Championship Victory
A fine performance from the team in the
championship saw the boys cruise past a
gallant Warrenpoint team. Played in terrible
conditions the team took time to settle
recording a number of early wides and missed
chances. It took Jake Carville to produce
a fine score to start the team playing and
with Pete Jones and Aidan Mccartan dominating
midfield some cracking scores followed,
an overhead strike by Jake the pick. Cahal
Keown set up some fine scores for Mick hat
trick Gilmore and the town settled into
a comfortable half time lead. A solid second
half performance saw the town run out easy
winners with Aidy Doc and jamie Clarke cleaning
up any Warrenpoint attacks and Sean Hardy
showing plenty of potential with a fine
point on his debut. The Carville brothers
played well and Reece was unlucky not to
score a goal.
A good performance even with a number of
players on holiday but much improvement
is needed for the next round. Training Monday
6.30 Bann Road. Full panel needed.
Castlewellan girls in U12 camogie final
The under 12 camogs will be playing on Sunday
the 17th of August against Ballycran in
the Meadow.
Good luck and best wishes for the final
girls from Committee and members.
Our young Camogs have trained hard to get
to this final and a few more extra training
sessions should see them prepared to meet
the challenge. The team is led by Aoife
keown who is in her last year as under 12.
She has taken control of the midfield in
our two matches up to this final and has
been ably backed up by the quiet Katie Savage
and the not so quiet Saoirse Steele who
is a force to be reckoned with out on that
pitch. Saoirse and Katie do not let anyone
dictate the game to them and should be a
postive force in the middle of the field.
In the goals we have Primmy Dillion who
is a Ballykinler girl who likes to play
her camogie with the town girls. She is
a solid goal keeper who will not let anything
past if she can help it. She has in front
of her Leanne Cunningam who has just started
to play camogie though she played for the
Finn school with Paddy Hardy last year and
with a few words of encouragement she has
stepped in for Sinead Sweeney who has been
sickf or quiet a lot of the year.
In the two half backs we have two players
who are tremendous workers Holly Carville
and Clare Clelland. These two girls are
a joy to coach as they give 100% every match
and you know they will always try hard.
In center half back we have the tenacous
Ciara Gibson who loves to play rugby and
gaelic football she is anexcellent player
of the ball and always gives her heart in
every game and always there first at every
training session and match. She is a great
asset to the team.
Out front in center half forward we have
Catherine Collins who works hard in her
tackling and striking of the first time
ball. She connects well with the midfield
and and always gives her best for the coaches
and her team.
The two half forwards are our two smallest
players on the pitch but do not be deceived.
These two pack a punch Caitriona Caldwell
and Anna Rogan both can run and strike out
of the hand with the ball and can tackle
any thing twice their size and always will
work hard for their team.
Up front we have the poacher who loves
that ball in front of the net and so far
this championship she has netted four goals
and she says she cannot play camogie and
thats Sarah McArdle who is also our top
goal scorer. On the football team Sarah
will always want to win and thats what we
all want, postive attitude and she carries
that in abundance!!
Next but by nomeans last we have the rest
of the squad Nicola McCabe who always gives
her heart and soul to play the game. She
is a strong striker of the ball and gets
as many chances to play as we can give.
She is accompanied by Ellen Finnegan, Aine
Robb, Haley Wynn, Cliona McComiskey, Megan
Murdock, Caitlin Small, and Cora Clarke
and Sorcha McCartan all players of the future
who attend all the sessions and work hard
for their team.
Good luck girls from the club and your
Mangers Noreen, Dessie and Sinead. You have
worked hard all season and you know you
can win you just need to give all you can
for just 30 mins and the cup will be yours.
Believe in who you are and what you are
and you will succeed.
