Fixtures/Results

Castlewellan - Club Notes 8th September 2008

Congratulations to our 3rds footballers who have reached the Reserve Championship Final for the second year in a row after a one point victory over Drumaness. The scoreline on 0-12 to 1-08 doesn't tell the full story as in truth the margin of victory should have been greater but several goal oportunities were not taken though thankfully at the final whistle we were still on the right side of the result. Let's hope that this year they go one better than last year and bring the cup back to Castlewellan. The date and venue for the final is yet to be announced.

Our annual sevens took place on Saturday and were a huge success. 16 teams from 3 provinces took part in what was a very enjoyable days football. A number of county stars were on show and the fact that Paddy Bradley came straight from his trial for the compromise rules team to play for Glenullin in the knock-out stages of the competition shows the esteem in which the tournament is held. In the end St Gall's from Antrim retained their crown after beating Tourlestrane from Sligo in the final with Kevin McGourty picking up the Player of the Tournament award. It was great to see a number of new teams compete this year including Tourlestrane and let's hope that next year's tournament attracts a record number of entries for the 30th anniversary of the event. Thanks to Embroidit and O'Neill's for thier sponsorship and to all members who played their part in making the day such a great success and compliments to the people who prepared the food as it was spoken very highly of by all teams. The burgers weren't bad either!!!

Our 2nds footballers lost narrowly to Clonduff on Sunday evening.

With 6 games still to go in the league our senior men have a very real chance of making the top 4 and hopefully winning our first league title since 1979 so all support at matches would be very much appreciated.

Underage coaching as usual on Saturday morning.

Bingo as usual on Friday night.

The Club lottery jackpot now stands at £7150- well worth a quid!
