Clonduff
Ladies write themselves into history books - 12/08/2003
Clonduff Ladies wrote themselves into the history books when
they collected the County Junior title in Kilcoo on Sunday evening. They annihilated
Teconnaught on a scoreline of 4-17 to 0-3!
Played in front
of a very big crowd in very hot sunny conditions, the Hill Town girls took a little
time to settle but once Christine Branagan sent over the first point it was almost
one-way traffic. Every Clonduff girl played to her potential though Teconnaught
did enjoy some possession midway through the first half. Their wayward shooting
and the good goal keeping of Louise Savage held them to 3 points (2 from frees)
to Clonduff's 3-8 at the half-way stage.
Clonduff started
introducing subs at half time and they had used their full quota by the end of
the game. Teconnaught was held scoreless while Clonduff added 1-9. At the end
of the game Onagh Gribben, who had played a real Captain's role throughout the
game, accepted the Murray trophy amidst jubilant scenes.
Clonduff
now play the Donegal winners, at home in the first round of the Ulster Championship.
It is likely that the opposition will be much stronger than what they faced on
Sunday.
