Turning in a great second-half performance
Clonduff outscored a gallant Bryansford
side in the Down U-21 football final
played at Pairc Esler, Newry on
Sunday 19th December on a scoreline
of 1-13 to 3-5.
The game which
was played in excellent conditions
for this time of the year proved
very exciting with the outcome in
doubt right to the final whistle.
Bryansford had
the better of the first-half exchanges
and were good value for their 2-3
to 0-4 lead at the break with their
goals coming in the third minute
from Conor Murphy, and from a penalty
by Ciaran Brannigan.
However, it was
a completely different story from
the start of the second-half. Aiden
Carr and Eamon O’Reilly started
to dominate the midfield exchanges
and with a plentiful of ball going
into their forwards, Clonduff levelled
the game after ten minutes play.
Eamon O’Reilly
then shot the Clonduff side into
the lead, and when Jason Browne
added a goal to their tally they
seemed to be on their way to success.
They added three further points
to their tally before the Bryansford
side put in a great late rally which
yielded a goal from Ciaran Brannigan
and two further points. However,
in the end they ran out of time
as Clonduff held on for a deserved
win.
