Congratulations to the
Senior camogie team who lifted the
Down Junior Championship with a two
point victory over An Riocht in the
final in an exciting game.
Senior football: Tullylish 0-5 Darragh
Cross 3-7
League leaders Darragh Cross booked
their place in the promotion play offs
on Friday night with a comfortable win
against Tullylish. The win went some
way to making up for Darragh’s
championship loss at the hands of
Tullylish a week ago. The away side
started brightly, but it took eight
minutes for them to get their first
score. Darragh had kicked six shots
either wide or dropped short before
they got their first score, which came
from a ball rebounding off the post
and Padraig Mageean tapping into the
empty net. Hugh Murray then curled
over for Darragh from wide on the
right after good work from Mageean and
Dermot Timoney. The next score was
another goal for
Darragh, when Peter
Swail ran through and blasted with his
left foot to the roof of the net. Two
frees from Marcus Miskelly put Darragh
2-3 to no score ahead, before
Tullylish registered a point from a
free just before the half time
whistle.
The
second half was more of the same, with
Darragh on top and keeping the tempo
up to dominate their opponents. Eoin
Mageean pointed from a 45 to increase
their lead, before two points from the
home side. Darragh keeper Michael
McMahon then showed great reflexes to
keep out a goal-bound shot which had
taken a deflection off a Darragh
defender in Tullylish’s next attack.
Points from Eoin Mageean and Marcus
Miskelly sealed Darragh’s win, as they
began to play some good passing
football with impressive support play.
Tullylish pointed from a free, before
Hugh Murray’s shot looped under the
bar for the Cross’ third goal. Murray
added a point from a free as
Darragh took the
spoils.
Fintan Murray, Sean Timoney and Ryan
McGreevy had solid performances in
defence, while Dermot Timoney, Hugh
Murray, Liam Sloan and Marcus Miskelly
were also impressive in the victory.
Darragh Scorers – H Murray (1-2), P
Swail (1-0), P Mageean (0-1), M
Miskelly (0-3), E Mageean (0-2)
Reserve football:
Teconnaught 3-4 Darragh Cross 4-12
Darragh Cross reserves recorded
another victory in this derby match
away to
Teconnaught on Sunday evening. Darragh
were always in control of the match,
after an excellent first half display,
and in the end ran out comfortable
winners. Hugh Murray ran through from
midfield to angle a shot in off the
far post to the net to get Darragh's
first score. Points were added from
Michael Murray, Mark McMahon and Eoin
Mageean before McMahon was put through
and his shot squirmed under the keeper
for Darragh's second goal. Further
points from Hugh Murray, Malachy
Sweeney and McMahon gave Darragh a 2-7
to 0-1 lead at half time.
Mark
McMahon got an early goal in the
second half after a long ball in from
Hugh Murray, but Teconnaught responded
with two points and a goal. Eoin
Mageean and
McMahon added points, before the home
team scored from a penalty. Darragh's
fourth goal came after a great
individual run from Eoin
Mageean, who layed it
off to Michael Murray and he finished
calmly to the corner. Teconnaught got
a late consolation goal, but Darragh
deserved the victory after a spirited
team performance, with some good
flowing football.
In
the defence Martin McClements, Vincent
Murray, Neil McGreevy and Ryan
Miskelly were superb,
while Hugh Murray, Eoin Mageean, Mark
McMahon and Michael Murray were the
main threat in attack.
Darragh Scorers - M McMahon (2-4), H
Murray (1-3), E Mageean (0-3), M
Murray (1-1), M Sweeney (0-1)
The Under 12
footballers travelled to St Colmans
Park Drumaness on Sunday, but lost out
by two points in a very competitive
game played in a great spirit. Darragh
led for most of the first half but
went in level at the break. They let
Drumaness take command early in the
second half however came storming back
and could have won it in the end.
There were good performances all over
the field. In defence Kyle Moffet and
Kevin McClements stood strong and in
attack Conor Keenan, Shane Murray and
Eamon Sweeney always looked dangerous.
Joe McKinney put in a man-of-the-match
performance in midfield and was
involved in a great duel with his
Drumaness counterpart. The team travel
to Bright this Sunday. All players are
reminded that training takes place
every Tuesday at 6.30pm and it is
essential all players attend.
