notes-
Darragh Cross 2-7 Bredagh 0-10
Darragh Cross were made to fight hard
for this win over Bredagh in the
reserve league, but held on for the
two points to keep them second in the
table. Hugh Murray got Darragh off the
mark with a long range score, before
Bredagh got the next three points.
Peter Casey and Eoin Mageean got
Darragh
back
level, before Casey got Darragh's
first goal, finishing well after a
ball
through from Hugh Murray. Bredagh
replied with a couple of points, but
Michael McMahon punched a high ball in
from Marty McGreevy past the Bredagh
keeper to leave Darragh 2-3 to 0-5
ahead at half time.
Michael McMahon curled over another
score in Darragh's first attack of the
second half, but Bredagh came back to
narrow the deficit to a single point
midway through the half. Points from
Peter Casey and Eoin Mageean (2) left
Darragh three clear, and they held on
despite Bredagh pressing for a goal
late
on. Darragh's defence improved in the
second half, to shut out several
Bredagh attacks, with Steven Carville,
Marty Burns and Vincent Murray
impressing. In attack Michael McMahon,
Peter Casey and Eoin Mageean were the
dangermen.
Scorers - P Casey (1-2), M McMahon
(1-1), E Mageean (0-3), H Murray (0-1)
Darragh Cross 5-4 Ardglass 5-6
The
Under 16 footballers played at home on
Tuesday night and suffered a
narrow defeat to Ardglass by a
scoreline of 5-6 to 5-4. Darragh got
early
goals from Phil Murray and Ben Turner,
and points from Conleth Morgan, to
give
them a lead early on, but Ardglass
took their points when attacking,
and
late goals in the first half left them
seven points up at the break. A point
from Ben Turner early in the second
half was quickly followed by a
goal, after a long ball in from Marty
McClements went straight to the net.
Ardglass hit back, with two goals in a
three minute spell, but Darragh
didn’t drop their heads, and Marty
McClements ran through to score
another
goal
after a good lay off from Phil Murray.
This was followed by a Steven
Rice
goal from a penalty which put three
points between the sides. Darragh
narrowed the deficit to one point with
scores from Rice and Steven Ward, but
it
was too little too late as Ardglass
scored a point late on, and held on
for
the victory.
Steven Rice, Aaron McKenna, Phil
Murray and Conleth Morgan battled hard
for
Darragh Cross throughout.
This
was Darragh's last match of the season
at Under 16 level, the league is
now
over.
Scorers – M McClements (2-0), B Turner
(1-1), S Rice (1-1), P Murray (1-0),
C
Morgan (0-2), S Ward (0-1)
