Darragh Cross GAC notes:
The minor
footballers won on Sunday, beating
Kilclief at home by two points. Played
in difficult undefoot conditions, it
was a low scoring battle, with Darragh
eventually running out 1-03 to 0-04
winners. Midfielder Mark McMahon was
the dangerman for the Kilclief
defence, scoring all three Darragh
points in the first half to leave them
leading by 0-03 to 0-01 at the break.
Kilclief were awarded a penalty early
into the second half only for Darragh
keeper Declan Flynn to produce an
impressive tip over the bar for a
point. After this Darragh had some
good chances to extend their lead but
a combination of good Kilclief
defending and poor finishing kept the
score at 0-3 to 0-2. Kilclief
equalised, but Darragh went straight
up and were awarded a penalty after
Paul McGreevy's shot was blocked by
the foot of
Kilclief defender.
The Kilclief keeper produced an
excellent save to deny Mark McMahon's
penalty, but McMahon made up for this
by flicking a high ball into the net
minutes later to put Darragh back in
front. Kilclief could only manage one
more point as Darragh held on to take
the two points. Declan Flynn, Mark
Carson and James McLernon were
excellent in Darragh's defence, while
Mark McMahon got every score from
midfield.
