Drumgath 1-8 Darragh Cross 2-14
Darragh Cross got back to league
action on Saturday after more than a
month
without a competitive game, and
comfortably defeated a Drumgath side
that
could have had one eye on their
Intermediate Championship final. The
win
means that Darragh will go into the
play offs as league leaders in
October. The first fifteen minutes was
a tit-for-tat affair, with Eugene
Murray
breaking through twice from half back
to send over fince scores, and Eoin
Mageean fisting over, but the home
side got scores in betweeen Darragh's
points to keep it a close first
quarter. Gareth McGovern curled over
from a
narrow angle Darragh's next point, and
in the next attack the ball broke to
McGovern again who made no mistake in
finshing to the net. Another point
from
Eugene Murray added to a remarkable
performance for the centre half
back. Darragh scored points before
half time from Marcus Miskelly,
Padraig
Mageean and Gareth McGovern, but
Drumgath added three points of their
own to
go
in at half time trailing by 1-8 to
0-6.
The
second half began with Drumgath
entering into their best spell of the
match, with a goal and a point
bringing the deficit to just a single
point.
Padraig Mageean curled over after good
battling from Dermot Timoney, before
Drumgath scored another point to put
one betweeen the sides again. Mageean
was
having an impressive game in midfield,
and his next score was sent over
with
the left boot. Peter Casey then
extended Darragh's lead, and this
increased when a good pass from Hugh
Murray found Gareth McGovern who beat
the
keeper to get his second goal of the
game. McGovern then set up Peter
Casey for another score, as Darragh
were in control and Drumgath failed to
score again. Late points from Padraig
Mageean and Ryan McGreevy sealed a
nine-point win for the Cross, who had
some superb performances all over the
pitch. Ryan McGreevy and Eugene Murray
were the pick of the defenders, while
Marcus Miskelly, Padraig Mageean and
Gareth McGovern also had pivotal
performances.

Reserve football - Darragh Cross 2-13
Carryduff 0-3
A
compehensive victory brought the
curtain down on a succesful league
campaign for Darragh Cross reserve
footballers on Sunday. The win makes
it
nine
wins in a row and leaves Darragh
sitting second in the league. The
victory was never in doubt as Darragh
controlled the majority of the game.
Sean
Timoney's rampaging run and fine long
range strike brought Darragh's
first point. Points were added from
Gareth McGovern, Hugh Murray, Eoin
Mageean and Mark McMahon before
Mageean ran through to slot to the net
for
Darragh's first goal. Further scores
from Malachy Sweeney and McGovern left
Darragh 1-7 to no score ahead at the
break.
The
second half was more of the same, with
Carryduff only managing sporadic
attacks which brought them just three
scores. Hugh Murray and Marty McGreevy
were
dominating midfield and the half back
line of Sean Timoney, Eoin
Mageean anad Ryan Miskelly were
supporting the attack effectively.
Gareth
McGovern, Michael McMahon and Malachy
Sweeney were having good games in
attack for the home side. Points from
Hugh Murray, McGovern (2) and Ryan
Miskelly increased Darragh's lead
before Michael McMahon turned and
fired
low
past the keeper for the second goal.
Brian Canavan and Malachy Sweeney
added late points to end Darragh's
season on a high, with a record of
played
12
won 10, with the two early defeats
costing Darragh in the end. Darragh
