Dundrum were left to rue three late
missed chances as Glenn snatched a draw
in a scrappy Division 3 encounter on
Friday night.
The game was close fought in all quarters
throughout and it was in the final minutes
that Dundrum had the opportunity to
prevail but couldn't make it count.
At half time the homeside led by the
minimum, Conor McShane's goal near the
whistle being the highlight of a very
niggly half. The young Dundrum forward
deserved all the credit for the goal
as he courageously slid in to scramble
the ball by the Glenn stopper.
Two long range scores from wingback
Martin Melville and a free apeice from
McMullan and Walsh along with a Paddy
Doran point rounded off Dundrum's first
half return. Glenn also got amongst
the scoring with seven points coming
their way. Tom Bagnall and Nicky Cranney
being their two most dangerous men in
this period.
The second half saw Glenn switch Collie
Murtagh to midfield to try to curb the
aerial dominance of Walsh and it worked
well up until the final ten minutes.
Murtagh's physical presence won Glenn
more ball and allowed them to attack
on more ocassions.
The half came to light only seconds
in as Glenn pointed to leave the game
all square. Then immediately after Cathal
Kielty found the net for Dundrum thanks
to the exhaustive work of McMullan who
sent the big full forward through. Right
after Walsh knocked over a free.
From this moment on Glenn started to
dominate. Cathal Murtagh and Tom Grant
got tighter at the back whilst Shay
McGuinness started to ask qestions of
the Dundrum backline. This led to Glenn
knocking over five successive scores
to put themselves into a one point lead.
After such a sustained period of dictating
the game the South Down side began to
wilt and this allowed for Walsh and
McComiskey to sneak into convert to
put Dundrum up by a point again.
The finale was hardfought and physical
and with only three minutes remaining
Damien O'Hare went on a long penetrating
solo run that pierced the Dundrum fullback
line and led to a goal. Glenn now held
sway by two.
But what O'Hare could do Doran could
do better and straight from the kickout
Dundrum worked a move that saw the Number
11 hit the Glenn net. For the fifth
time in the game the Duns led by a point.
The final skirmishes threatened to produce
a winner with Dundrum missing three
difficult frees but there was going
to be no winners in this one as Glenn
glanced over a point with the last throw
of the dice to rescue a draw.
