Sophisticated performance from Carryduff
ACFL Div 3: Carryduff 2-18 Dundrum 0-08

By Marc Mac Siomoin [marc_mac_siomoin@yahoo.co.uk]

ACFL Division 3
Carryduff 2-18 Dundrum 0-08

A sophisticated performance from Carryduff ensured that Dundrum left the North Down venue pointless on Friday night.

In a game in which Carryduff always looked like winning, it was the ball winning abilities of Aidan McGirr at midfield that undoubtedly swung the game in their favour. It was McGirr who did all the hard work in getting possession for his side. His partner in midfield, county star Adrian Scullion, was the main beneficiary of McGirr's unselfish work.Scullion was able to use this constant feed of ball to provide his attack with plenty of ammunition.

Carryduff were very prolific up front. Chris O'Neill (1-06) and Ryan Hanna (0-04) were the top marksmen in an attack that was built around Declan Morgan, Eamon Blaney (0-02), Brian McCreanor (0-01) and Mickey Brethnall (1-01). At the back it was Richard Maguire and Matthew Price that were strongest in keeping Dundrum at bay.

The Duns had to field without Coughlan, Doran, King, Morgan and Shields. This handicapped them from the start. They had to rely on the quick inside forward pairing of McShane (0-02) and Venney (0-01) too much. In the end fatigue crept in and the pacey pair were starved of supply. McMullan (0-04) was the Duns biggest contributor of the night.

Dundrum lacked zip and the midfield fight was were they totally succumbed. On occasion Walsh easily outjumped Scullion but it was the presence of McGirr that was unstoppable.

Carryduff are certainly back on form. Five wins out of five games has propelled them towards the promotion area. They look a surefire bet to go up despite their early season shakiness.
