Dundrum Notes and Match Reports
for Week Beginning 31st May

By Marc Mac Siomoin [marc_mac_siomoin@yahoo.co.uk]

* Pride of place this week goes to Rory Kavanagh. The young P.6 pupil at Sacred Heart Primary played in front of a capacity crowd at Breffni Park at half time in the Ulster SFC clash between Cavan and Down. Rory was part of the Down Primary School's select team. This was a remarkable feat and all at the club are very proud of Rory.
* Saturday saw the final trial for the Down U-17 squad. The club had three representatives in attendance. They were Martin Melville, Conor McShane and Chris Hogg. The final squad will be announced in the forthcoming weeks.
* Congratulations to Paul McComiskey who was selected for the Down U-16 team that played Cavan in Virginia on Sunday morning.
* It is also good to see that the fine talents of Conal McKee are being recognised. Conal has been selected for the East Down U-14 development squad.
* The Seniors dismal form sank to new depths on Friday night. Glenn trounced them on a scoreline of 3-12 to 0-04. Mitchels visit this week with a 7.30pm throw in. Kieran Walsh is on the comeback road from injury whilst Martin Coughlan has been ruled out of action for five weeks.
* The Reserves flattered to deceive again last Sunday, Bright overcoming them by a point in Killough.
* The Minors bowed out of the Championship at the first hurdle on Wednesday night. Carryduff emerged victorious by thirteen points. The side's task was made all the more difficult as Ballykinlar failed to send their contingent to the game. The 'B' Championship now awaits.
* The U-16's lost only their second league game of the season. Teconnaught fought hard to go away with a three point margin. Conor Kearney and Richard Fitzsimons are currently on the injury list and it should be another month before they are able to return.
* After beating Bright the previous week, the U-14's fell to a one point defeat at the hands of Saul. However, this team continues to improve as the weeks go by.
* The U-12's game with Bredagh was postponed because of the failure of the referee to show. This game will take place on a later date.
* The U-10's won their first game of the season on Saturday morning. They overcame parish rivals Ballykinlar by seven points. Jack Magee, Niall Strain, Sanctun Byrne and Rory Kavanagh were amongst the goal scorers. There were very encouraging performances from Oisin McKibbin, Declan Cunningham, Chris Baillie and Jonathan Hogg.
*The club would like to extend it's deepest sympathy to the Carr family on the death of Peter.
