Dundrum Notes 25th April 2005

By Marc Mac Siomoin [marc_mac_siomoin@yahoo.co.uk]

ACFL Division 4

St Johns 1-08  Dundrum 1-11

* The Seniors disastrous start to the season continued on Friday night when they made the long journey to Magheralin only to get hammered by a strong home side. The final scoreline: St Michaels 3-12 Dundrum 0-08.

This Friday night the team will make the short trip to Drumnaquoile to take on St Johns. Travelling arrangements and throw-in time will be made available to the players tonight (Wednesday) at training beginning at 7pm sharp.

* It was great to see Reserve goalkeeper David Campbell in action for the Seniors on Friday night. David replaced the injured Colm King and made a host of fine saves in the second half. Best wishes also go to Neil McComiskey and Colm Morgan who are both on the road to recovery after recent injuries.

* The Reserves were due to take on Castlewellan III's in the opening round of the East Down Reserve League on Sunday but due to the torrential rain the Castlewellan pitch was deemed unplayable. This game will be re-arranged for a later date.

All Reserve players should attend training tonight (Wednesday) as details for this Sunday's game will be made available.

* The Minors were back in action last Thursday after an unwanted three week break. They travelled to Cherryvale to take on Bredagh and came home victorious on a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-08. There were notable performances from Chris Hogg, Conor McShane, Paul McComiskey, Martin Melville, Michael Rooney and Marc Cunningham.

Tonight (Wednesday) the lads take on Liatroim at home. After this the Minors still have to fulfil fixtures against St Johns/Dromara, Loughinisland, Drumaness (twice) and Liatroim again.

* Both Paul McComiskey and Conor McShane have been involved with the Down Minors in the past few weeks. Paul started in corner forward against Armagh and scored a point in Down's 0-12 to 1-04 win at Crossmaglen a fortnight ago while Conor was in the squad that lost out to Antrim in Newcastle at the weekend.

* The U-16's put in a fantastic performance against Loughinisland last week. Last night (Tuesday) they took on Ardglass in Ardtole. A full report will be available next week.

* The U-14's secured their first league victory of the season last Thursday as they overcame parish rivals Ballykinlar in a closely fought contest. In the end Dundrum ran out 3-07 to 1-10 victors. Dundrum scorers on the night were Conal McKee 0-04, Patrick Curry 0-02, Rory Kavanagh 0-01, Kieran Carville 1-00 and Oisin McKibben 2-00.

* The U-12's suffered a big defeat at the hands of Dromara last Sunday. However, there were notable performances on the day from Declan Cunningham, Oisin McKibben, Conn Rooney, Jonathan Hogg, Aidan Fegan and Jack Magee.

* RTE is now available on Sky TV. RTE 1 can be found on channel 267, RTE 2 will be on channel 268 whilst TnaG will be on channel 269.

* Well done to the Down U-21's on their recent Ulster Championship success.

* U-12, U-14 and Minor representatives can email me match details to marc_mac_siomoin@yahoo.co.uk or mfitzsimons06@qub.ac.uk.
