Dundrum Notes - 5th April 2005

By Marc Mac Siomoin [marc_mac_siomoin@yahoo.co.uk]

** The Seniors travel to Killough on Sunday to face Bright in the opening round of the ACFL Division 4. After three seasons in Division 3 Dundrum will face a baptism of fire when they take on the Division 4 favourites. Bright bolstered by former Downpatrick stars Donal McCartan and Mark Stitt along with ex-Drumaness playmaker Neil Stranney will be formidable opposition on their tight pitch.
The throw-in is down for 2pm. Dundrum players are to meet at McKibbin's garage for 12.15pm.New training arrangements will be made available to the players after the game.
It was great to see the influential Mickey Murray return to training on Sunday afternoon after a long layoff. Best wishes also go to long term injury victims Neil McComiskey and Colm Morgan.
It would be great to see a high turnout of support for this game as Dundrum face one of their most important campaigns yet.
* The Reserves start their year with a fixture on the 17th of April.
* The Minors did not have a game on Sunday as they had a bye. Tonight (Wednesday) they entertain Dromara/St Johns with a 6.45pm throw in at Ballykinlar. N Morgan is down to officiate.
The Down Minor Championship draw has been made and Dundrum have been handed a home tie against last year's 'B' champions An Riocht. The Kilkeel side is littered with St Louis MacRory Cup players and Down Minors but nonetheless it should be a fantastic game of football which the Dundrum lads should relish.
Sunday the 24th of April has been penned in for the East Down Minor Feis 7's. The tournament is to be held in Ballykinlar with a 1pm start.
Training continues as usual on Monday nights with a 7.30pm start.
* Conor McShane and Paul McComiskey were in action again for Down Minors last Thursday night in their 1-11 to 1-08 triumph over Louth in Pairc Esler. Conor started in corner forward and produced an energetic first half display while Paul hauled in three points from left half forward. Both Dundrum lads performances were extremely encouraging.
* The U-16's were due to play Kilclief in their opening East Down Section B League match but the referee failed to show. Last night (Tuesday) the team travelled to Bright. A full report will be available in next weeks press.
Next Tuesday the side entertain Loughinisland at home. The throw-in is at 7pm with N McDonald assigned as referee.
The East Down U-16 Championship draw has been made and Ballykinlar have drawn St Pauls at home in the Preliminary round. The game has been pencilled in for Tuesday the 26th of April with a 7pm start. If Ballykinlar can triumph in this match they face the daunting task of hosting a very strong Carryduff offering in the first round. This fixture has been set for Tuesday the 10th of May.
* The U-14's were due to entertain Bright at home on Thursday evening but due to unforseen circumstances the fixture was switched to Bright. In the end the Killough lads ran out winners.Tomorrow night (Thursday) the team visit Dromara for a 7pm throw in. M McCartan is the referee. Training continues on Monday nights with a 6.30pm start.
* The U-12's made the long journey to St Pauls on Sunday evening but they were soundly beaten by an older and stronger Holywood side. It must be kept in mind that this Dundrum U-12 team has only five U-12 players with the majority of the team coming from the U-10 and U-8 ranks. Training is from 10.30am to 11.30am on Saturday morning. The next fixture is at home to Dromara on Sunday at 5pm. O Burke is to referee.
* Here is a list of the various management teams for the incoming year:
Senior - John McShane (Manager), John Morgan (Head Coach), Philip McGrattan (selector) and Liam McKibben (Selector)
Reserve - Philip McGrattan and Liam McKibben
Minor - Colm Morgan, Paddy Doherty, Daniel Rooney
U-16 - John Boden, Mark Fitzsimons, Cormac Venney, Rocky Lagatule and Donal Smith.
U-14 - Thomas McShane, Karen Cunningham and Jonathan McMullan
U-12 - Eamon Hogg, Michael Kearney, Nathan Clarke, Patrick McKibben and Caroline Clarke
